Patent number: 7650620Abstract: The present specification discloses a multimedia distribution system and method. The system and method has a producer workstation, a delivery server, a high-bandwidth one-way satellite transmission system, a terrestrial two-way communication system (including use of the Internet), a plurality of satellite affiliate workstations, and a plurality of terrestrial client workstations. The delivery server receives digital information (envelopes and associates media files) from the producer workstations for delivery of the information to the affiliate and client workstations addressed in the envelope. The affiliate and client workstations provide the delivery server with confirmation of delivery of each received envelope and its associated files. In the absence of receipt of confirmation of delivery, the delivery server re-sends the unconfirmed envelope and associated files to the non-confirming affiliate or client workstation by a two-way terrestrial connection or by a manual system, such as a dub-and-ship service.Type: GrantFiled: March 15, 2007Date of Patent: January 19, 2010Inventors: Laurence A Fish, Lowell E Teschmacher, Anibal-Jose Rivero, Roswell R Roberts, III

Patent number: 7308818Abstract: Impact-sensing and measurement systems are disclosed, especially for use in contact sports and related activities that involve exchanges of impacts or blows. The system generally includes at least one impact sensor, a controller, and a feedback device. The controller is in communication with the at least one impact sensor, and includes a microprocessor having a control program software executed thereon at least for processing data from the at least one impact sensor. The feedback device is in communication with the controller and is configured to produce an audio or video output, or combined audio and visual output, based on impact data produced by the impact sensor upon sensing an impact and processed by the first controller. The controller can be programmed to provide specialized training regimens and/or interactive training programs, such as over a computer network.Type: GrantFiled: February 9, 2005Date of Patent: December 18, 2007Assignee: Garri Productions, Inc.Inventors: Gary Considine, Jeff Dankworth, Rita Server, Ian Lerner, Roswell R. Patent number: 6965593Abstract: A method and arrangement is provided for the multicasting of streaming digital content to a plurality of Internet users. Streaming digital audio, video or other digital data content that is to be multicast to Internet users is formatted into IP protocol at a head-end content source transmission site. The streaming IP digital data is transmitted from the head-end transmission site to at least one distant/remote routing station of an Internet service provider (i.e., a provider-edge router or Internet point of presence) via a bandwidth portion of a digital communications data transport service or transmission medium that is substantially unaffected by conventional Internet communications traffic. The Internet service provider (ISP) maintains at least one access router for providing Internet access via its Internet domain for its customers accessing the Internet via conventional two-way IP connection.Type: GrantFiled: March 4, 2002Date of Patent: November 15, 2005Assignee: DS Systems, Inc.Inventors: Paul W. Donahue, Jeffrey A. Dankworth, Larry W. Hinderks, Laurence A. Fish, Ian A. Lerner, Thomas C. Ballister, Roswell R. Roberts, III

Publication number: 20030012180Abstract: A method of multicasting digital data to a user accessing an Internet connection is disclosed. The method includes placing digital data that is to be multicast in IP protocol to generate IP digital data. The IP digital data is transmitted from a transmission site to a remote Internet point of presence through a dedicated transmission channel substantially separate from Internet backbone. The dedicated transmission channel may be, for example, a satellite channel. At the remote Internet point of presence, the IP digital data is multicast for delivery to at least one receiving Internet user's apparatus connected to but distal from the remote Internet point of presence.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 4, 2002Publication date: January 16, 2003Applicant: Starguide Digital Networks, Inc.Inventors: Paul W. Donahue, Jeffrey A. Dankworth, Larry W. Hinderks, Laurence A. Fish, Ian A. Lerner, Thomas C. Ballister, Roswell R. Roberts

Publication number: 20020105955Abstract: An Ethernet Digital Storage (EDS) Card and satellite transmission system is provided for receiving, storing, and transmitting files including video, audio, fax, text, and multimedia files, especially files received via satellite transmission. In a preferred embodiment, a satellite system includes a receiver using the EDS Card. A data stream is received by the receiver and then may be stored at the receiver or directly routed as TCP/IP packets. Received or stored data files may be multicast. The EDS Card also includes an HTTP server for web access to the card parameters and any files stored on the card. A DHCP on the EDS card provides dynamic configuration of the card's IP address. The EDS card also includes a PPP and modem processor for file transmission, reception, and affidavit collection. The EDS card also includes an event scheduler for triggering files at a predetermined time or at an external prompt.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 13, 2001Publication date: August 8, 2002Inventors: Roswell R. Patent number: 6411616Abstract: An arrangement for multicasting digital data to a user accessing an Internet connection is disclosed. The arrangement entails placing streaming digital data content that is to be multicast in IP protocol to generate streaming IP digital data. The streaming IP digital data is uplinked from a transmission site to a satellite and downlinked to one or more remote Internet gateways via a communications path that is substantially separate from the Internet backbone. A plurality of separate satellite receiver systems, which may be located at separate remote Internet gateways, are adapted to receive IP streaming content via downlink carrier from the satellite and provide the streaming IP content to an Internet gateway without providing substantial TCP confirmation of delivery. At a remote Internet gateway, the streaming IP digital data content is multicast for delivery as a one-way data stream to at least one receiving Internet user's apparatus connected to but distant from the remote Internet gateway.Type: GrantFiled: April 19, 2000Date of Patent: June 25, 2002Assignee: StarGuide Digital Networks, Inc.Inventors: Paul W. Publication number: 20010000457Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for dynamically allocated multiple slots within a multi-channel multi-carrier transmission system. The slots may be allocated sequentially or non-sequentially. The data transmission rate for each slot remains constant, while multiple slots may be allocated to a single user service. Each carrier signal contains header data regarding all other carriers associated with the transmission system to identify the allocation of slots to user services. In an alternative embodiment, an encoding and transmitting system is provided for transmitting one or more video and audio encoded signals in a time division multiplexed manner along separate channels having fixed bandwidths. Multiple audio channels may be transmitted simultaneously with a related single video channel, and vice versa. The time division multiplexed audio/video signals may be transmitted over a single carrier or over multiple carriers.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 4, 2000Publication date: April 26, 2001Inventors: Larry W. Hinderks, Laurence A. Fish, Ian Lerner, Roswell R. Roberts
