Patent number: 6329788Abstract: A system of cordless power tools includes a cordless power tool adapted to removably receive a rechargeable battery pack. The system further includes a battery pack charger and a converter for converting AC electricity to DC electricity. A battery pack interface block is captured between clam shell halves of a battery pack housing and includes a plurality of male blade terminals. The male blade terminals are received within recessed female terminals of a tool terminal block and similarly received by recessed female terminals of the charger. The tool terminal block further includes a pair of male terminals which engage recessed female terminals of the converter. Apertures are provided in guide rails of the battery pack to receive the male terminals of the tool terminal block.Type: GrantFiled: May 26, 2000Date of Patent: December 11, 2001Assignee: Black & Decker Inc.Inventors: Rouse R. Bailey, Jr., Paul S. White, Thomas J. Bodine, John E. Buck

Patent number: 5738177Abstract: A production assembly tool for securing fasteners to a workpiece such as an automobile body. The production assembly tool of the present invention includes a housing which encases a motor, a transmission, a clutch mechanism and a control module. The control module controls the running and braking of the motor and prevents both over and under securing of a fastener caused by falsely detected tool clutch conditions. An improved clutch sensor switch is operatively associated with the control module for detecting clutch disengagement. The clutch mechanism is designed to drive the fastener until the clutch sensor switch detects clutch disengagement and signals the control circuit to stop drive and start braking. The production assembly tool further includes a system for ensuring accurate placement of the power tool motor in the power tool housing subsequent to motor servicing or repair.Type: GrantFiled: July 25, 1996Date of Patent: April 14, 1998Assignee: Black & Decker Inc.Inventors: Craig A. Schell, James R. Parks, Todd A. Hagan, Pradeep Kumar Nandam, Rouse R. Bailey, Jr.

Patent number: 5115538Abstract: A vacuum cleaner has a power brush which projects dirt particles directly into a specially formed and located vacuum nozzle in such a manner that low air consumption can be used. The vacuum nozzle has an inlet extending along the full axial length of the power brush. Inclined grooming brushes may be provided to eliminate wheel tracks. The front wall forwardly of the power brush may be modified to provide front edge cleaning. A cordless upright vacuum cleaner may advantageously be provided having a cleaning performance comparable with that of mains powered upright cleaners.Type: GrantFiled: April 29, 1991Date of Patent: May 26, 1992Assignee: Black & Decker Inc.Inventors: John R. Cochran, Rouse R. Bailey, Jr., William R. Lessig, III
