    Abstract: The present invention comprises an automatic gain controller for an RF transceiver that comprises a digital engine that selects a gain level responsive to a signal power level of a signal of interest received by the RF transceiver. The digital engine is configured to select the gain level from a plurality of possible gain levels to maximize the signal power of the signal of interest while providing at least a selected signal of interest to noise ratio. The digital engine provides a control signal enabling amplification of a received signal according to the selected gain level.
