  • Patent number: 4236902
Abstract: A portable air filter and absorber device for removing impurities such as gases and finely divided solids from the atmosphere includes a sectionalized cylindrical housing containing a blower mechanism operatively connected to a motor driving section. An activated carbon section is detachably mounted adjacent the blower section for removing odors and noxious gases from the atmosphere and attached in series to the activated carbon section is a fibrous section which acts to filter particulate material from the air prior to its entry passage into the carbon granule section. The sectionalized cylindrical housing includes a plurality of inner annular grooves which are adapted to matingly engage projecting end portions of the carbon granular section and the fibrous filter section to permit predetermined mounting of these sections in series to the housing.

  • Patent number: 4202141
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a spark plug cleaner and a method of operating the cleaner. The spark plug cleaner includes a closed container adapted to receive and hold a spark plug in a horizontal position with its electrode inside the closed container. A motor driven multi-directional rotatable impeller, having a vertical shaft extending through the top wall of the container, is mounted within the container with the multi-directional rotatable impeller having an axial inlet facing downwardly inside the container. The container is provided with a horizontally extended duct between the lower end of the spark plug holder and the downwardly open inlet of the multi-directional rotatable impeller to permit the impeller to project the particulate against the spark plug and to continuously recirculate the particulate through the multi-directional rotatable impeller during operation.

  • Patent number: 4165586
Abstract: The invention provides a spark plug cleaner operating to break up fouling carbon deposit by blasting the fouled surfaces of a spark plug, with a blasting abrasive such as granular tungsten carbide, zirconium or aluminum oxide of 36 to 46 grain size to break up the encrustation of carbon deposit on those surfaces of the plug which are exposed to combustion, and in particular, to remove the carbon from the surface of the insulator of the plug which is exposed to fractional combustion of fuel and lubricating oil. The invention performs this service by producing impingement of abrasive particles comprising a granular metal carbide, such as tungsten carbide, upon the fouled surfaces. The invention may be embodied in a spark plug cleaner which will treat only a single spark plug at one cleaning operation or it may be embodied in a plug cleaning operation performed upon a plurality of plugs simultaneously, in a single spark plug cleaner.

  • Patent number: 4121916
Abstract: The present invention provides a portable, motor driven air purifying instrument for purging impurities from the atmosphere about the user, i.e., from a more or less localized or confined body of air such as that in a room or in an automobile. It is designed to be used as a personal adjunct for purifying the atmosphere or body of air about a person with whom it is associated. It is designed for use indoors, i.e., in an enclosed or limited space.

  • Patent number: 4062155
Abstract: The present invention provides a compact, completely enclosed motor driven spark plug cleaner. It is preferably battery driven and is adapted to be held in the hand of the user. The invention provides a device for projecting granular abrasive against the electrodes and the insulation of a spark plug to clean them of carbon deposit. Safety features prevent projection of the abrasive particles into the face and particularly the eyes of the operator. Spark plugs of various sizes and screw threads may be treated without requiring any structural adjustments by the operator. The blast of abrasive particles is directed against the electrodes or "points" of the spark plug at an angle to the longitudinal axis of the plug, and the plug can be rotated and wobbled in its mount. This provides a novel and advantageous mode of operation and constitutes a novel method of cleaning a spark plug.

  • Patent number: 4028851
Abstract: The sparkplug cleaner of the present invention provides a closed container, comprising a cylindrical barrel member open at its upper end. Its upper open end is adapted to be closed by a cover member, upon the center of which is mounted an electric motor having a vertical shaft extending down through the cover member. The said shaft on its lower end, inside the container, carries a closed impeller rotatable in a horizontal plane to throw the particulate abrasive out tangentially. Inside the cup-shaped barrel member, and below the impeller, are mounted guiding vanes for guiding the return flow of airborne abrasive particles carried upwardly in a swirling airflow circulation created by the rotating impeller.
