Patent number: 9682534Abstract: Chemical resistant waterproofing laminate membranes are formed by bonding an aluminum film or foil between two substantially vapor-impervious films with a chemical resistant bonding agent or adhesive such as cured liquid silicone rubber. The chemical resistant bonding agent resists delamination and deterioration of the laminate membrane caused by solvents and chemically reactive materials found in brownfield sites.Type: GrantFiled: February 5, 2016Date of Patent: June 20, 2017Assignee: Polyguard Products, Inc.Inventors: Nathan E. Patent number: 7427575Abstract: A faced fibrous insulation having a mat facing on one or more surfaces of a fibrous insulation material is provided. The mat facing provides improved surface quality, high and controlled adhesion, and is easily manufactured. The mat facing of the present invention includes a pre-applied adhesive that is heat activated to provide adhesion to the fibrous insulation. The mat facing may be input into the glass fiber forming section of a fibrous insulation production line. Alternatively, the mat facing may be applied to the uncured pack prior to curing or applied to the cured fibrous insulation.Type: GrantFiled: June 2, 2004Date of Patent: September 23, 2008Assignee: Owens Corning Intellectual Capital, LLCInventor: Roy E. Publication number: 20010031329Abstract: An insulation system exhibiting superior ability to maintain insulation in a dry and effective condition and to remove moisture that condenses near a cold pipe is disclosed. The insulation system features a wicking material that surrounds the pipe and passes through a slit in the insulation. A vapor retarder surrounds the outer perimeter of the insulation. At the seam, a flap, containing openings that permit evaporation of moisture, extends over the slit and attaches to the vapor retarder. The vapor retarder provides enhanced performance by preventing the seepage of moisture back into the bulk of the insulation.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 14, 2000Publication date: October 18, 2001Inventor: Roy E. Patent number: 5987833Abstract: A vacuum packaged conformable insulation assembly may be installed in a cavity before the vacuum in the insulation assembly is released. The insulation assembly includes a compressible batt of mineral fibers such as fibrous glass wool. During manufacture, the batt is encased in a gas-impervious envelope. The envelope is vacuum-sealed to retain the batt in a compressed state. The envelope may be provided with opening structures for selectively releasing the vacuum in the envelope. The envelope is sufficiently large to permit the batt contained therein to fully recover when the vacuum is released. According to a method of the present invention, the envelope is placed in a cavity to be insulated, and then the envelope is ruptured to allow the batt to expand to cause the insulation assembly to conform to the cavity.Type: GrantFiled: June 24, 1997Date of Patent: November 23, 1999Assignee: Owens Corning Fiberglas Technology, Inc.Inventors: Michael T. Heffelfinger, Roy E. Shaffer

Patent number: 5916393Abstract: A method for applying adhesive on a porous substrate with improved bonding between the adhesive and the substrate. The adhesive is applied on a surface of the substrate. The applied adhesive is impinged with a fluid such as air to force a first portion of the adhesive to flow and penetrate the substrate while a second portion of the adhesive remains on the surface.Type: GrantFiled: June 24, 1997Date of Patent: June 29, 1999Assignee: Owens Corning Fiberglas Technology, Inc.Inventors: Roy E. Shaffer, Jeffrey A. Tilton, Randall E. Nyhart, Frederick R. Ernest

Patent number: 5849131Abstract: Our unique process applies pressure sensitive hot melt adhesive to fiberglass insulation with improved adhesion to the insulation surface and the adjoining substrate. As opposed to the typical spray or bead extrusion methods, the preferred embodiment applies a ribbon of adhesive to the blanket and pulls it into the insulating glass with a vacuum. The adhesive penetrates the glass and becomes an integral part of the insulating blanket.Type: GrantFiled: May 30, 1997Date of Patent: December 15, 1998Assignee: Owens Corning Fiberglas Technology, Inc.Inventors: Roy E. Shaffer, Frederick R. Ernest, Jeffrey A. Tilton

Patent number: 5517729Abstract: Reusable closure for bags including a double cord loop and a cinch member which moves along the double cord with less resistance to close a bag and greater resistance to open same.Type: GrantFiled: August 11, 1994Date of Patent: May 21, 1996Inventor: Roy E. Shaffer
-
Patent number: 5421133Abstract: An insulation product comprises an elongated blanket of fibrous insulation material having a facing on one major surface, the facing extending beyond the edges of the blanket to form opposed flanges, the flanges having first reinforcement fibers extending longitudinally along the outer edge zones of the flanges, and the flanges having intermediate zones positioned inwardly of the outer edge zones, and provided with second reinforcement fibers of a lesser density so as to provide a visual indication of the boundary between the outer edge zones and the intermediate zones of the flanges.Type: GrantFiled: May 20, 1993Date of Patent: June 6, 1995Inventors: Clarke Berdan, II, Roy E. Shaffer, Ray G. Stout
-
Patent number: 4889018Abstract: A lid opener for accommodating wide and narrow rim lids, especially lids with an outwardly extending skirt portion which is crimped or curled over to form a reinforcing bead. The opener includes a strap loop attached to one or both ends to a handle. The strap is adapted to encircle the lid and be cinched thereagainst by the handle to apply a leveraged turning force to open the lid.Type: GrantFiled: November 1, 1988Date of Patent: December 26, 1989Inventor: Roy E.
