Abstract: Lathe chuck consisting of a main body onto which is screwed a clamping member having an aperture through which the end of a member to be turned may be passed. Introduced into the chuck to form a ring around the axis of rotation is a non-continuous length of coil spring which is deformed as the clamping member is screwed up onto the main body to reduce its length and thus the diameter of the ring it forms. Said end of the member to be turned is normally flanged and the reduced diameter of the ring formed by the coil spring inhibits withdrawal from the chuck.
