  • Patent number: 10643221
Abstract: An amateur advertisement service is described which distributes and generates revenue from personalized advertisements produced by creators featuring an item for purchase. The personalized advertisements may be created in response to requests supplied by manufacturers of the items to be featured in the personalized advertisements. Each of the personalized advertisements can be assigned unique identifiers to index and organize the ads for viewing by others. Associate websites may provide links to the amateur advertisement service to allow certain personalized ads to be viewed from the associate websites. Revenue can be generated based on the viewing of ads and/or the purchase of the items featured in the ads and distributed to the creators, associate websites and the amateur advertisement service.

  • Patent number: 9996587
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for obtaining feedback associated with specific segments of a work. In some embodiments, a content provider may make one or more segments of the work available to commentators to provide feedback associated with a particular segment. The feedback may include ratings and/or comments. In some embodiments, feedback scores may be calculated using the feedback. Alternatively or additionally, content providers and/or other commentators may evaluate feedback provided by commentators. These evaluations may be used to calculate a commentator reputation score. Some feedback scores may be based at least in part on commentator reputation scores. In some embodiments, comparisons of feedback may be generated. For example, the comparisons may be based at least in part on feedback associated with one or more segments that is filtered based on demographic criteria that divide commentators into groups.

  • Patent number: 9992556
Abstract: Computing resources may automatically generate a rough draft of storyboard by using textual analysis to extract meaning from a screenplay. The storyboard may be accompanied by spoken dialogue, sound effects, and a soundtrack. Users may provide pre-production decisions regarding appearance of characters and backgrounds. The users may include a community of different individuals who contribute content and suggest modifications to the storyboard. The computing resources may also access logic to select visual elements for the storyboard from libraries of existing content or from custom content prepared by one of the users. Pagination of the screenplay and location of dialogue and action on the pages of the screenplay may be used to create a timeline for the storyboard and any accompanying audio.

  • Patent number: 9418481
Abstract: Augmented reality may be provided to one or more users in a real-world environment. For instance, information related to a recognized object may be displayed as a visual overlay appearing to be in the vicinity of the object in the real-world environment that the user is currently viewing. The information displayed may be determined based on at least one of captured images and transmissions from other devices. In one example, a portable apparatus receives a transmitted user identifier (ID) and may submit the user ID to a remote computing device that compares a profile of a user corresponding to the user ID with a profile associated with the portable apparatus for determining, at least in part, information to be displayed as the visual overlay. As another example, the portable apparatus may include a camera to capture images that are analyzed for recognizing objects and identifying other users.

  • Patent number: 9361373
Abstract: Techniques for providing personalized presentations of aggregated content items are described herein. These techniques may aggregate individual content items from multiple sources, filter the content items based on the preferences of a user, and create an ordered presentation of the content items. A different presentation may be available to the user at different times, for example, a new presentation may be available each day. The new presentation may include more recent or more relevant content items than previous presentations of content items. Each presentation may combine the multiple individual content items together in such a way that each individual content item appears to the user as part of a single content item. User interaction with the aggregation of content items may be analyzed and that analysis may be used to modify subsequent selection and ordering of content items in future presentations.

  • Patent number: 8909740
Abstract: Systems and methods enable users to exchange content, such as chat text, with other users that are consuming like video media. In one implementation, several users collectively group together to form a video session. The video media played during the video session may be selected by a vote of the users. The users in the video session each consume the same video media, and the video media is played on individual user computer devices in a synchronized manner. The users send chat text to one another over a network using a computer user interface. The chat text is superimposed over the synchronized video running on the individual user computer devices.

  • Patent number: 8738390
Abstract: Techniques described herein facilitate approval or disapproval of individual segments found within discrete pieces of content. By facilitating approval or disapproval on a per-segment basis, the described techniques allow for more granular feedback to the pieces of content than do traditional techniques. Furthermore, by indicating instances where individual segments receive broad approval or broad disapproval, the described techniques allow for better understanding of which individual segments of the content have been broadly deemed helpful and which individual have been broadly deemed unhelpful. This level of granularity contrasts with traditional techniques that simply indicate approval or disapproval of a piece of content in its entirety.

  • Patent number: 8719376
Abstract: A system and method for delivering content is disclosed. A content download service initially registers client computing devices to receive content. Therefore, when the content download service receives a request from a requesting client computing device to download content to a receiving client computing device, the content or download instructions are sent to the receiving client computing device. Downloading is controlled by the content download service and a software agent installed on the receiving client computing devices when they are registered. Content request and content download occur over a computer network, such as the Internet. The content may be stored by the content download service and supplied to the receiving client computing device by the download service, or stored by a content supply service and supplied to the receiving client computing device either directly or via the content download service.

  • Patent number: 8464066
Abstract: A system and method for storing segments of multimedia data with other users. A user selects a segment of data from the multimedia data by activating a user interface control. Prior to sharing the data segment, however, permission to share a data segment from such multimedia is determined based on various types of metadata. In another embodiment, data segments may be shared in accordance with an affiliate program under which affiliate users may earn benefits for sharing data segments with others.
