  • Patent number: 5632873
Abstract: A chamber for depositing a film layer on a substrate includes a support member on which the substrate is positioned for processing in the chamber, and a ring assembly suspended in the chamber on a chamber shield. The ring assembly comprises first and second rings, the second ring being disposed intermediate the first ring and the substrate. The support member is positionable in the chamber to receive a substrate thereon, and further positionable to pass the substrate through the shield and thereby lift the ring assembly off the shield. After deposition is complete, the support member retracts through the shield, to reposition the outer ring on the shield. The inner ring continues to move downwardly with the substrate support member a short distance before it is repositioned on the shield.

  • Patent number: 5483419
Abstract: A docking module for removable disk drives provides, in one embodiment, space for two such disk drives within a standard half-height bay. The docking module provides cammed insertion and removal together with hot swappability of disk drives. The bay is provided within a housing member. A door is rotatably mounted on the housing member and configured to serve as a lever arm. An engagement portion for urging a disk drive into the bay protrudes from the door. A slide is mounted within the housing member and connected to the door such that rotation of the door causes the slide to move forward and back within the housing member. A tab on the inner end of the slide engages the disk drive to urge the disk drive out of the bay. Alternative embodiments provide ten or more disk drives at a density of two drives per half height bay.

  • Patent number: 4399480
Abstract: A head access door mechanism for a cartridge containing a magnetic disc is described. The mechanism employs a bellcrank, located inside the cartridge, to which the door for the head access opening is coupled. The door slides in grooves located along the top and bottom of the side of the cartridge. The bellcrank is spring-loaded and forces the door closed and inward against a seal located around the head access opening. An interfering lip located along the inside of the groove slightly beyond the end of the door when the door is in the closed position interferes with the door so that it cannot be opened by a force applied directly to the door at the head access opening which would tend to slide the door within the groove. When inserted into a disc-drive assembly, a pin in the disc-drive assembly exerts a force on the second arm of the bellcrank to overcome the spring-loading.

  • Patent number: 4394700
Abstract: A mechanism for restraining a magnetic disc within a cartridge and for sealing the cartridge when the cartridge is not in use is described. The present invention has one or more spring-loaded members located on the bottom of the cartridge which are coupled to the cartridge but movable with respect to it and which are separate from the rotatable hub assembly to which the magnetic disc is clamped within the cartridge. The spring-loaded member or members press in an axial direction against a surface on the hub to force together the overlapping sealing surfaces on the hub and the cartridge, thus sealing the cartridge and preventing the hub assembly and magnetic disc from rotating when the cartridge is not in use. When the cartridge is inserted into a disc-drive assembly, release pins overcome the spring-loading of the member or members and allow the sealing surface on the hub assembly and cartridge to separate.
