  • Publication number: 20210301560
Abstract: A lever-lock release system is configured to releasably couple two objects together, for example a parachute and a payload. The lever-lock release system may comprise a first lever and a second lever, each rotatably coupled to a rigid base. When activated, the levers cascadingly rotate to release a first object and a second object. With these systems and related methods, various failure modes may be eliminated, such as undesired premature deployment of recovery parachutes during aerial delivery.

  • Patent number: 11072430
Abstract: A ring release system is configured to releasably couple a parachute to a payload. The ring release system may comprise a series of release rings affixed to a riser. At least one release ring has an associated retaining ring that surrounds the riser and is affixed to the riser on a back side. • Publication number: 20200354066
Abstract: The present disclosure provides a parachute comprising a fabric-based canopy and a crown area air inlet formed in the fabric-based canopy. The crown area air inlet may be aligned with areas of highest external pressure acting on an external surface of the canopy as the parachute inflates in order to increase a rate of inflation of the parachute.

  • Patent number: 10723468
Abstract: A parachute inlet control system is configured to provide an improved inflation profile for solo and/or clustered parachutes. An inlet parachute is coupled to a main parachute via a plurality of inlet control suspension lines and/or reefing rings. The inlet control suspension lines may be passed through the reefing rings and coupled to an anchor point below the main parachute. The inlet parachute is located in the inlet area of the main parachute, and causes the inlet of the main parachute to rapidly form a desirable shape. The inlet parachute and inlet control suspension lines function as a reefing system to prevent full inflation of the main parachute until a reefing cutter has functioned. In this manner, parachute failures, such as those due to leading and/or lagging parachutes in a parachute cluster, may be reduced or eliminated.

  • Patent number: 9789968
Abstract: A ring release system is configured to releasably couple a parachute to a payload. The ring release system may comprise an upper release ring, an intermediate release ring with a partially and/or completely flattened end, and a lower release ring having a J-shape. When activated, the release rings cascadingly separate to release the parachute from the payload. With these systems and related methods, larger payloads may be supported, the mass and size of the ring release system may be reduced as compared to prior systems, and various failure modes may be eliminated.

  • Patent number: 9452842
Abstract: Inserts for parachutes, for example modified cruciform parachutes, provide improved structural strength and reduced inflation times. An exemplary insert comprises a high-strength fabric coupled to center panels at a set of discrete points. The insert at least partially blocks airflow between the center panels, allowing the parachute canopy to inflate more rapidly. Via use of an insert, other components of a parachute, such as center panels, may be made of lighter, lower strength, and/or less expensive material without compromising the load-carrying capacity or reliability of the parachute.
