  • Patent number: 10808565
Abstract: In some examples, a system includes a blade including a blade tip and a blade track or blade shroud segment including a substrate and an abradable coating layer on the substrate. The substrate defines a leading edge and a trailing edge. The abradable coating layer includes a first tapered portion that substantially continuously tapers from a center portion of the substrate toward the leading edge of the substrate, a second tapered portion that substantially continuously tapers from the center portion of the substrate toward the trailing edge of the substrate, and a blade rub portion that extends between the first tapered portion and the second tapered portion. The abradable coating extends from the leading edge to the trailing edge, and the blade tip is configured to contact at least a portion of the blade rub portion upon rotation of the blade.

  • Publication number: 20190177828
Abstract: Example systems and techniques for controlling thermal spray processes and for determining properties of thermal spray coatings. A computing device may control a thermal spray gun to thermally spray a substrate in a thermal spray cycle including a plurality of passes of a coating material to form a coating. The computing device may determine a change in curvature of the substrate during the thermal spraying, and determine properties of the coating based on the changes in the curvature. The computing device may control the thermal spray gun based on the determined properties.

  • Patent number: 10241091
Abstract: An example system includes at least one acoustic sensor configured to generate at least one acoustic data signal indicative of an acoustic signal generated by a thermal spray system comprising a flowstream, a computing device, and an acoustic data signal processing module operable by the computing device to determine an ignition attribute of the thermal spray system by analyzing at least a pre-ignition window of the acoustic data signal received by the computing device.

  • Publication number: 20190012777
Abstract: An example apparatus for measuring a feature of a tested component may include a lighting device, an imaging device, and a computing device. The computing device may receive, from the imaging device, a plurality of images the tested component in a plurality of states. The computing device may segment each image to isolate target areas from background areas. The computing device may measure a plurality of lengths of the target areas and compare corresponding lengths of two or more of the images.
