  • Patent number: 8699939
Abstract: An educational recommender system and a method are provided. The method includes receiving a request to recommend a course of action related to a plurality of current students; accessing a computer database storing student data that corresponds to the plurality of current students; clustering in a computer process the plurality of current students into at least two clusters based at least on granular assessment data associated with student data corresponding to respective current students; and outputting the results of the clustering to a user. The granular assessment data includes a result of an assessment administered to respective students of the plurality of current students, and each assessment includes a plurality of questions for assessing one of the current students. • Patent number: 8457544
Abstract: A recommender system and method including receiving a request identifying at least one current student for which a recommendation is sought and accessing stored student data including attributes associated with respective students of the current students and a plurality of predecessor students. For the predecessor students the attributes include educational resources. The method includes clustering one of predecessor students and the current students into clusters based on sameness of first selected attributes of their respective associated attributes. The method includes generating a mapping between respective students of the other of the predecessor and current students and one of the clusters based on sameness of second selected attributes associated with the students being mapped. The method then includes recommending for each of the current students the educational resource associated with the predecessor student or cluster of predecessor students that the current student is mapped with.

  • Patent number: 7922871
Abstract: A method of recycling composite material comprising carbon fibers and a resin, the method comprising: providing a furnace comprising at least a heating portion; providing a transporter for transporting the composite material through the furnace; loading the composite material on the transporter and transporting the composite material through the furnace; detecting a percentage of oxygen in an atmosphere in the heating portion when the composite material has entered this portion; and removing resin from the composite material, as it travels through the heating portion of the furnace on the transporter, by means of chemical decomposition at a first temperature, with the resultant generation of fumes; wherein the generated fumes are removed from the heating portion in a controlled manner, such that the percentage of oxygen in the atmosphere in the heating portion is controlled.

  • Publication number: 20100159437
Abstract: A recommender system and method is provided, including receiving a request to recommend a course of action related to a plurality of current students in accordance with a plurality of constraints and accessing a computer database storing student data that corresponds to the plurality of current students. The student data includes attribute data corresponding to respective students of the plurality of current students for describing at least one attribute related to the respective students. The method further includes clustering in a computer process the plurality of current students into a selected number of clusters based at least on sameness of attribute data corresponding to the respective current students of the plurality of current students and the plurality of constraints, and outputting the results of the clustering to a user.

  • Patent number: 3973151
Abstract: A method of manufacturing stator assemblies for dynamo electric machines in which the stator assemblies are of the kind including a hollow cylindrical yoke carrying a pole member on its inner surface comprising starting with a pole member having upstanding therefrom an integral spigot, and a yoke member, the wall of which includes a through bore of larger diameter than the spigot, performing a deforming operation on the yoke at the outer end of the bore to enlarge the diameter of the outer end of the bore and at the same time reduce the diameter of the bore intermediate its ends. The intermediate diameter of the bore is reduced to that of the spigot, and the spigot is then inserted through the bore from the inner end thereof so that the pole member lies against the inner surface of the yoke. The free end of the spigot is then deformed to produce a rivet head occupying the outer, enlarged region of the bore, and thus secure the pole member to the yoke.

  • Patent number: 3965754
Abstract: A roller clutch assembly for use in an internal combustion engine starter motor. The assembly includes a clutch outer member which is arranged to be driven and a clutch inner member which carries a pinion gear wheel. The clutch inner member and the pinion gear wheel are arranged as parts of a common member having a radial shoulder between the inner member and the gear wheel. A plurality of rollers lie between the inner and outer clutch members and a plurality of compression springs each urge a respective roller in a circumferential direction. An annular washer is carried by the outer clutch member and abuts the shoulder to prevent disengagement of the clutch inner member from the clutch outer member. The washer is formed in at least two parts and the parts defining the washer are so shaped that the abutting edges of the parts are disposed other than parallel to the convolusions of the springs.

  • Patent number: 3958141
Abstract: A face commutator for a dynamo electric machine comprises a body carrying a plurality of conductive segments. The segments are arranged in a circle with each segment extending radially. The rear face of each segment includes a channel the radially outermost wall of which is defined by a pair of rearwardly extending circumferentially divergent integral projections which key the outer end of the segment into the body. The other wall of the channel of each segment is defined by a rearwardly extending lug adjacent the radially inner end of the segment, the face of the lug presented to the pair of projections being undercut and so providing keying to the body at the radially innermost end of the segment.
