Roy R. Vann has filed for patents to protect the following inventions. This listing includes patent applications that are pending as well as patents that have already been granted by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

  • Patent number: 4066282
Abstract: A positive tubing releasable coupling apparatus which is interposed within a tubing string, and the string subsequently parted by separating various component parts of the coupling from one another. A wireline fishing tool is used for actuating the releasing mechanism.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 1, 1976
Date of Patent: January 3, 1978
    Inventor: Roy R. Vann
  • Patent number: 4040482
Abstract: Well bore completion method and apparatus which includes a perforating gun suspended from the end of a tubing string. A releasable coulping device is interposed between a stop means and the gun. When the releasable coupling is actuated, the gun, along with the lower marginal portion of the tubing string, is dropped to the bottom of the borehole.A special tool is run downhole and touches bottom, then raised to contact the stop means, to thereby enable a determination to be made regarding the feasibility of firing the gun. The tool is employed to fire the gun as well as to release the releasable coupling member. Provision is made by which the above sequence of operational steps may be interrupted at any time and the tool removed from the borehole.

  • Patent number: 4040485
Abstract: A packer actuated vent assembly comprising a packer device settable by reciprocal movement of a mandrel, a valve actuator in the form of a barrel attached to the packer body, and a mandrel extension having a valve means thereon attached to the packer mandrel. The valve means is engaged by a stop member located on the barrel and is moved to the venting position when the packer mandrel is properly manipulated to seat the packer.

  • Patent number: 4009757
Abstract: A method of completing a sandy production zone located downhole in a borehole by spotting a polymeric agent adjacent to the production zone, perforating the casing adjacent to the zone, and simultaneously increasing the pressure on the agent to a value which exceeds the formation pressure so that the polymeric agent is forced back up into the perforations as they are formed by the hot jets issuing from the gun.The polymeric agent is allowed to "set up" into a porous self-supporting mass, the pressure on the agent is reduced, and the well produced with flow of the production occurring through the porous mass.

  • Patent number: 3990507
Abstract: A high temperature well completion method is carried out by releasably suspending a perforating gun uphole in a relative low temperature region of the borehole. A wireline actuated releasable coupling drops the armed gun, and the gun comes to rest adjacent to a hydrocarbon bearing formation located downhole in a high temperature region of the borehole. The downward motion of the gun is arrested at a preselected location, causing the gun to be detonated and the casing to be perforated before the gun reaches temperature equilibrium.
