  • Patent number: 9124004
Abstract: A conforming radar reflector that includes a thin, metallic reflector layer with a plurality of corner reflectors formed or molded. The shape and orientation of the corner reflectors on the reflector layer produce a strong radar return signal and enable the reflector to bend and conform to the shape of a support object or surface. The corner reflectors are recessed cavities with three converging reflecting surfaces oriented 90 degrees apart from each other and attached at their adjoining edges. Adjacent corner reflectors are rotated and offset approximately 60 degrees. When viewed from the front, six adjacent corner reflectors are aligned in radial pattern each with one vertex pointing to a common center. Disposed between the outer perimeter edges on adjacent corner reflectors is flexible intermediate section that acts as a living hinge that enables the reflector layer to be bent along the intermediate section to conform to an outer surface.

  • Patent number: 7004100
Abstract: An improved canoe including a hull has sidewalls extending fore and aft and a gunwale on the sidewalls. The gunwale has longitudinal slot extending for a substantial portion of the entire hull. A canoe accessory has a thickened attachment portion for engagement in the slot to attach the accessory to the canoe. A method of canoeing includes inserting a thickened portion of a canoeing accessory into a slot at a canoe gunwale to retain the accessory in place and paddling the canoe on a body of water.

  • Patent number: 6868587
Abstract: An improved strap tensioner that allows a user to manually shorten the strap by applying greater tension on the strap and easily lengthening the strap after being tightened. The tensioner includes a tension lever, an intermediate member, and a brake lever all pivotally mounted on a rigid base. The tension lever and brake member are longitudinally aligned on opposite sides of the rigid base. Formed on the tension lever is a transversely aligned clamping flange that extends under the strap when longitudinally extended through the rigid base. Formed on the intermediate member and disposed above the clamping flange is a first cam surface that forms a slot for the strap to extend through. The brake lever includes a second cam surface that is spaced above the front flange member to form a second slot. During operation, the brake lever is rotated to press the second cam surface against the front flange member to temporarily hold the strap inside the rigid base.

  • Patent number: 6739276
Abstract: An improved rudder system and pedal system for use in a watercraft such as a kayak. The rudder assembly includes a rudder housing having a push rod operably linked to a rudder blade positioned in the housing. A rudder control cord passes through a fairlead located at the top of the push rod and terminates at the trailing edge of the rudder blade. Upon tensioning of the rudder cord, the push rod acts against a notch in the leading edge of the rudder blade, which causes rotation of the rudder blade in addition to the rotational force on the trailing edge of the rudder blade due to movement of the control cord. A feature of the rudder assembly is the incorporation of a spring element in the rudder blade that provides an extension bias to the rudder blade, and user selectable pre-loading thereof for varying the rotational bias. The pedal system includes a toe control pivotally attached to a foot brace that is slidingly located in a track.
