  • Patent number: 7700152
Abstract: Nano- and micron sized metal oxide and mixed metal oxide particles are injected into a high temperature region wherein the temperature is between about 400° C. and less than 2000° C., and collected as particles or as coatings wherein a particulate nature is substantially maintained. The particles are altered in at least one of phase, morphology, composition, and particle size distribution, and may achieve further changes in these characteristics by coinjection of metal oxide precursor in liquid form.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 25, 2005
Date of Patent: April 20, 2010
Assignee: The Regents of the University of Michigan
Inventors: Richard M. Laine, Julien Marchal, José Azurdia, Roy Rennesund

  • Patent number: 6627083
Abstract: Sintered light expanded clay aggregates are described that are prepared by expanding and firing a clay-based material, and where the finished aggregates have a diameter of up to about 32 mm, for use as filtration medium for purifying water, wherein carbonates of calcium and/or magnesium are added to the clay as flux material prior to expansion and firing. Uses of the expanded clay aggregates for removing phosphorous by utilising die clay aggregates are also described, as well as a method for removing phosphorus by using the clay aggregates.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 21, 2001
Date of Patent: September 30, 2003
    Assignee: A.S. Norsk Leca
Inventors: Roy Rennesund, Petter Deinboll Jenssen, Tore Krogstad
