Patent number: 8017881Abstract: A circuit breaker enables selective left, right or a combination of both side connection to a power conductor, such as a cable or wire. Side connection eliminates the need for large radius U-bends of the power conductor that is normally required when using top connection circuit breakers. An electrically non-conductive cavity commonly defined by left and right sides of the circuit breaker housing receives the power conductor in a connector such as a lug. The circuit breaker may have a visualization window oriented to observe whether excessive cable is projecting out of the lug, so as to confirm compliance with electrical code over surface spacing requirements. In some embodiments, the circuit breaker lugs are vertically oriented above its front cover surface in a receptacle portion of the housing. The receptacle may be constructed for selective lug orientation in horizontal or vertical positions by the installer.Type: GrantFiled: February 13, 2009Date of Patent: September 13, 2011Assignee: Siemens Industry, Inc.Inventor: Roy Simmons

Patent number: 6521683Abstract: Antistatic agents for reducing and eliminating static electric charges on resins, particularly acrylic resins, including an antistatically effective amount of at least one substituted imidazolinium salt of alkylbenzene sulfonic acid having the formula: wherein R1 and R2 are the same or different and are alkyl groups having 6 or more carbon atoms. Also contemplated are methods, compositions and articles of manufacture which include the above mentioned antistatic agent and are added to or on the resins and further contain fatty acids or optical brighteners.Type: GrantFiled: April 26, 1999Date of Patent: February 18, 2003Assignee: Witco CorporationInventors: Roy Simmons, William P. Patent number: 5701895Abstract: An implantable subcutaneous data port for transferring data received from a sensor implanted within a subject. The data port electrically connects to the sensor and includes a control circuit electrically connected to an access port. The control circuit includes a current loop transmitter which modulates a current loop signal with voltage outputs from the sensor. This current loop signal transmits through the access port to an externally located current loop receiver which converts the current loop signal into an output voltage. Needle electrodes are insertable through the skin of the subject to the access port and provide an electrical interface between the control circuit and current loop receiver.Type: GrantFiled: October 7, 1996Date of Patent: December 30, 1997Assignee: Sulzer Intermedics Inc.Inventors: David Prutchi, Roy Simmons, III

Patent number: 4803837Abstract: A gas turbine includes a change-over valve having a rotatable part and a static part. The valve is disposed between upstream and downstream compressors of the engine for selectively directing flows from the upstream compressor and an auxiliary inlet to the downstream compressor or an auxiliary outlet, the downstream static part of the valve being formed as a structural element of the engine casing from which extends forwardly a support member which carries bearings for supporting the forward rotating part of the valve and the casing of the compressor.Type: GrantFiled: March 8, 1977Date of Patent: February 14, 1989Assignee: Rolls-Royce plcInventor: Roy Simmons

Patent number: 4505104Abstract: A mechanism 25 for preventing a turbine rotor 14 exceeding a predetermined speed in the event that a shaft 24 connecting the turbine rotor 14 to a compressor rotor 12 of the engine breaks and releases its torsional and axial constraint on the turbine rotor. The mechanism 25 comprises a segmented nozzle guide vane assembly 26 downstream of a stage of the turbine rotor 14. Each of the segments 26 is pivotally mounted (hinge pins 40) on an outer casing 34 at a region adjacent a radially outer upstream end of each segment 26. The structure of the engine on which the radially innermost ends of the segments 26 are mounted includes a releasable means 46. When the structure 46 is struck by the turbine rotor 14 the innermost ends of the segments 26 are released and allowed to swing rearwards and outwards about the pivotal attachment of the segments 26 to the outer casing 34.Type: GrantFiled: October 6, 1983Date of Patent: March 19, 1985Assignee: Rolls-Royce LimitedInventor: Roy Simmons

Patent number: 4260326Abstract: A stator blade for a gas turbine engine comprises a stack of laminar sections and means adapted to resiliently hold the sections together in compression to allow for differential expansion between the stack and supporting structure.Type: GrantFiled: July 18, 1974Date of Patent: April 7, 1981Assignee: Rolls-Royce LimitedInventors: Alexander Scott, Roy Simmons

Patent number: 4205927Abstract: A flanged joint structure for enabling a first member made from a fibre re-inforced composite material to be bolted to a second member includes means defining on the first member a continuous flange extending at right angles to the member, and an intermediate connecting portion which is bonded to the first member and which is bonded to the flange along a line which alternately passes above and below the mean plane of the loads applied by the bolts. This construction minimizes bending loads in the flange.Type: GrantFiled: December 12, 1978Date of Patent: June 3, 1980Assignee: Rolls-Royce LimitedInventor: Roy Simmons

Patent number: 4063847Abstract: A composite casing for a gas turbine engine comprises an inner wall which may be an integrally formed drum or a plurality of separate rings, and which is overwound with carbon fibers in a cross-weave and resin bonded to the inner wall. Honeycomb material is used to increase the outside diameter of the inner wall to provide continuous surface over which to wind the fibers.Type: GrantFiled: August 11, 1975Date of Patent: December 20, 1977Assignee: Rolls-Royce (1971) LimitedInventor: Roy Simmons
