Abstract: A pumping unit for use with a hydraulic elevator system includes a reservoir storing fluid, a first pump, and a second pump. The first pump is coupled with the reservoir and the elevator system to communicate fluid between the reservoir and the elevator system to actuate the elevator system. The second pump is also coupled with the reservoir and the elevator system to communicate fluid between the reservoir and the elevator system to actuate the elevator system. The second pump is selectively actuatable when the first pump is inactivated.

Abstract: The present invention provides novel calibration devices for use with fluorescent nanocrystal labels. Methods of preparing and using the calibration devices are also provided. Monodispersed populations of nanocrystals are deposited on surfaces. The monodispersed populations are obtained by dissolving the nanocrystals in a polar solvent.

Abstract: A synthetic rope for an elevator having improved resistance to compression and abrasion is provided and comprises a plurality of strands forming layers of the rope, each strand formed from a plurality of pre-twisted strands made from high modulus synthetic filaments. One or more of the strands or layers of strands may be impregnated with a lubricant, such as polytetrafluoroethylene, to reduce the abrasion among the strands and substrands, and increase the service life of the rope. The exterior of the rope may be covered by a jacket that provides for traction with the drive sheave. An elevator system comprising the claimed rope is also provided.

Abstract: A cart for a refuse bag has a base panel with left, right and rear upright panels attached to it. The panels have top flaps that fold over into the boxy structure formed by the panels to engage the inside of a refuse bag to hold the refuse bag upright. The cart has wheels and a handle for moving the cart and easily transporting the refuse bag.
