  • Patent number: 8405572
Abstract: A display device can include a housing, a processor, and a display assembly. The processor can be arranged within the housing. The display assembly can be operably coupled to the processor and arranged within the housing. The display assembly can include a first display, a privacy filter, and a second display. The first display can output a first portion of the display. The second display can output a second portion of the display. The privacy filter and the first and second displays can be arranged such that the first portion of the display assembly is filtered by the privacy filter to be viewable in a first viewable arc. • Patent number: 8363586
Abstract: Methods and apparatus are disclosed for media access control (MAC) layer processing to support social networking and advertisements over the MAC layer of a local personal area network (PAN). An application interface permits a service category corresponding to the application to be selected, and further permits service announcements corresponding to the application to be advertised. Generator logic may generate the service announcements to be advertised. The MAC layer processor inserts the service announcements into beacons in the local MAC layer of the local PAN and also receives advertisements from other devices over the MAC layer of the local PAN. Monitor logic can monitor the MAC layer of the local PAN for advertisements corresponding to the selected service category. The monitor logic is also operatively coupled with the application interface for displaying advertised services corresponding to the selected service category.

  • Publication number: 20120249806
Abstract: Systems and methods of conducting collaborative sessions between mobile devices may provide for determining a time delay associated with a set of participating mobile devices, and determining a command execution time based at least in part on a clock of a managing device and the time delay. One or more control messages may be transmitted to the participating mobile devices, wherein the control messages include the command and the command execution time. Upon receiving a control message, each participating mobile device may determine a local execution time based at least in part on the command execution time and an offset of the clock of the managing device relative to a local clock. Execution of the command can therefore be coordinated across the set of participating mobile devices.

  • Patent number: 8254995
Abstract: A wireless device is disclosed. The wireless device includes a wireless communication module, a data storage module, and a controller for controlling the storage and/or retrieval of data from the data storage module. The wireless communication module communicates with each of a plurality of remote devices and the data storage module defines a first storage area and a second storage area. The controller controls the communication of data between the first storage area and the remote device, and the second storage area and the remote device dependent upon access rights associated with the remote device. The first storage area typically defines a public storage area with which data is exchanged in a relatively free manner, and the second storage area typically defines a private storage area with which data is exchanged in a relatively restricted manner.

  • Publication number: 20120197630
Abstract: Methods and systems to summarize a source text as a function of contextual information, including to fit a summary within a context-based allotted time. The context-based allotted time may be apportioned amongst multiple portions of the source text, such as by relevance. The context-based allotted time and/or relevance may be user-specified and/or determined, such as by look-up, rule, computation, inference, and/or machine learning. During summary presentation, one or more portions of the source text may be re-summarized, such as to adjust a level of detail. A presentation rate may be user-controllable. Where new and/or changed contextual information affects an available time to review a remaining portion of the summary, the summary presentation may be automatically adjusted, and/or one or more portions of the source text may be re-summarized based on a revised context-based allotted time.

  • Publication number: 20120162091
Abstract: Methods and systems to allow users to gain the advantages of a large-format touch display by using smaller, cost-effective touch displays. Given two adjacent displays, regions may be created on both sides of the boundary between the displays. These regions may grow and shrink based on the user's movement, i.e., the velocity of a stylus or finger towards the boundary. If the user lifts his stylus within a region on one display, he may finish the tracking on the other by landing within the corresponding region of the latter display. This may allow a user to begin a drag on one display, drag towards another display, and “flyover” to the second display without slowing. The lift event may be removed when the first display detects the stylus being lifted as it moves towards the second. The landing on the second display may be removed.

  • Patent number: 8170212
Abstract: Device, system, and method of establishing secure wireless communication. A system includes at least one wireless communication device having a sensor to measure one or more parameters of a physical event shared between that device and another wireless communication device, and a processor to translate the one or more measured parameters into a secret data sequence known only to the devices sharing the event. A first of the wireless communication devices sharing the event is to combine a communication key with the secret data sequence, thereby to generate an encoded message for distribution over a wireless link accessible by the devices, and a second of the wireless communication devices sharing the event is to decode said encoded message using the secret data sequence, thereby to obtain the communication key. The wireless communication devices may then connect using the secret communication key as a basis for secure communication.

  • Patent number: RE42927
Abstract: A location information system uses a positioning system, such as the civilian Navstar Global Positioning System (GPS), in combination with a distributed network. The location information system includes a radio transceiver for communicating to the distributed network and a GPS receiving system. The GPS receiving system receives a signal from the GPS and converts it into a coordinate entry. The coordinate entry is transmitted to the distributed network for retrieval of corresponding location specific information. The location specific information may reside on a web page. The coordinate entry may be incorporated into the web page address that supports the coordinate entry or linked to an existing web page associated with the coordinate entry. The web page and associated information is displayed. Bar code labels, infrared beacons and other labeling systems may also be used in the location information system in place of or in addition to the GPS receiving system to supply location identification information.
