  • Publication number: 20230365491
Abstract: Cationic pillar[n]arenes, e.g., positively charged poly-ammonium, poly-phosphonium and poly-imidazolium pillar[5-6]arene derivatives are capable of inhibiting or preventing biofilm formation, and facilitating existing biofilm decomposition. A composition for inhibiting or disrupting biofilm, e.g., bacterial or fungal biofilm, formation, or reducing biofilm, can include a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier, and a cationic pillar[n]ene.

  • Patent number: 8034622
Abstract: Provided herein are compounds, methods of making the compounds and methods for the sensitive and selective detection of Hg2+ with the compounds, which are calix[4]arenes. In particular, compounds of Formula I, wherein the variables have the values described herein, may be added to a sample to be tested for Hg2+. The compound of Formula (I) fluoresces strongly in the absence of Hg2+ but is quenched upon binding of Hg2+ to form a complex. The decrease in fluorescence may be used to detect and quantify the amount of Hg2+ present in a sample. The disclosed compounds may also be used to selectively detect Hg2+ in samples containing other mono- or divalent metals.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 23, 2009
Date of Patent: October 11, 2011
Assignee: Indian Institute of Technology Bombay
Inventors: Chebrolu Pulla Rao, Roymon Joseph
  • Patent number: 8034621
Abstract: The present technology provides a dual chemical sensor for zinc and nickel ions and a chemical sensor for copper ions. Also provided are methods of making and using the chemical sensors. The chemical sensors have the structure of formula I, wherein R1, and R2 are defined as set forth herein.
