  • Patent number: 8406985
Abstract: A method automatically starts an internal combustion engine having variable valve lift. The internal combustion engine is shut down temporarily in certain driving operating states in order to save fuel and being re-started in the event of a change in the driving operating state. During the engine run-down, the inlet valve is actuated such that the closing time is shifted, with the cylinder being opened via the inlet valve until a pressure compensation has taken place in the cylinder in which an under-pressure would prevail during the engine run-down.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 8, 2010
Date of Patent: March 26, 2013
Assignee: Dr. Ing. H.C. F. Porsche Aktiengesellschaft
    Inventor: Ruben Van Den Bergh
  • Patent number: 8166944
Abstract: In a method for starting an internal combustion engine, immediately before a predetermined idling speed is reached for the first time, a rate of injection of fuel into at least one combustion chamber of the internal combustion engine is reduced for at least one cycle of the internal combustion engine.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 12, 2009
Date of Patent: May 1, 2012
Assignee: Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG
