Abstract: A process for the production of water-soluble auxiliary agents based on polyaminoamides by reacting a polyfunctional compound with a tertiary, monofunctional amine to form an ammonium compound and reacting that ammonium compound with a basic polyaminoamide, the basic polyaminoamide being the polycondensation product of a dicarboxylic acid, a polyalkylenepolyamine and an aminocarboxylic acid or lactam thereof, the basic polyaminoamide being reacted with 0.15 to 0.19 mol of a polyfunctional compound per mol equivalent of secondary amino group in the polyamide, incorporating that modified basic polyaminoamide in the paper pulp so as to increase the retention of fibres, fillers or pigments, or to accelerate the drainage.
