  • Patent number: 5041063
Abstract: A toothed belt where the crown surfaces of its teeth are to be disposed on the bases of gear wheel grooves is provided. In order to achieve a dampened, low-noise running-up of the toothed belt upon the gear wheel, as well as to achieve a free-of-play filling of the gear wheel grooves via the belt teeth in the direction of rotation as required for a reversible belt drive, embedded in the crown surface of each tooth belt is a crown piece made of a material that is elastically softer than the belt material. Viewed in the longitudinal cross-section of the belt, the crown piece extends essentially over the entire length of the crown surface of the belt tooth and protrudes from the crown surface in such a way that as the tooth runs up on the gear wheel, first the part of the curved outer side that protrudes the most strikes the base of the gear wheel groove, and subsequently this outer side is pressed flat against the groove by the belt tension.

  • Patent number: 5013286
Abstract: A belt drive comprising a toothed belt and a toothed pulley. The belt is provided with a guide rib that extends in the longitudinal direction of the belt and traverses the teeth thereof. To provide lateral guidance of the belt on a toothed pulley, the guide rib engages an annular groove on the periphery of the pulley. Disposed on the base of the annular groove of the pulley is an insert that is made of a material that has a softer resilience than does the material of the belt. The radial height of the insert is such that when the toothed belt runs up onto the toothed pulley, the guide rib of the belt first contacts the soft-elastic insert, and only after radial compression of the insert do the belt teeth rest upon the corresponding surfaces of the toothed pulley.

  • Patent number: 4515743
Abstract: A method of producing a reinforced plastics toothed belt having a fabric cover on the toothed side of the belt. Formed between a molding wheel and a molding wheel cover is a mold cavity into which the liquid plastics material, the reinforcing wires, and the strip of fabric are introduced. The strip of fabric, which is resiliently extensible in its longitudinal direction, is wetted, in the unextended state, before being introduced into the mold cavity, with an adhesive agent which hardens by drying and softens again under the temperature of the liquid plastics material. After the drying of the adhesive agent, the strip of fabric is introduced into the mold cavity and is placed on the teeth of the molding wheel. In the mold cavity, the strip of fabric is heated on meeting the liquid plastics material, is made resiliently extensible again as the adhesive agent softens, and is pressed into the grooves between the teeth of the molding wheel by the plastics material.

  • Patent number: 4443396
Abstract: A mould and method for the manufacture of a length of plastic tube within which a reinforcing wire coil is embedded, the toothed-belt-like inner side of the tube being covered by a fabric cover, the mould comprising a mould core having axial teeth, tooth notches therebetween and a mould sleeve spaced therearound. The mould core, over which the sleeve-shaped fabric cover is first of all placed, whereupon the wire coil is wound thereon, forms, with the mould sleeve, a mould cavity having the shape of a cylindrical ring, the plastic being introduced axially into the mould cavity from one end. At a face end the mould core has an non-toothed mould core portion which projects axially beyond the end of the teeth and has a holding surface, the diameter of which is reduced down to the diameter of the tooth notches.

  • Patent number: 4268471
Abstract: A method of producing an endless reinforced toothed belt of synthetic plastics material, the circumferential length of which in the untensioned condition has a predetermined minus tolerance in relation to an operationally tensioned intended circumference having the exact tooth pitch. The steps include placing on a molding wheel and a tensioning wheel a helically wound wire coil with fixed wire ends, the molding wheel and the tensioning wheel having an interaxial distance at which the wire coil has the minus tolerance in relation to the intended circumference. Then the wound wire coil is tensioned with elastic stretching of the wire turns and is enlarged to the intended circumference by increasing the interaxial distance to the intended distance.

  • Patent number: 4083838
Abstract: A continuous process for making endless toothed belts using a reinforced toothed belt preform of indefinite length by spirally winding the preform around toothed wheels spaced a variable distance while fusing the spiral wraps into a belt tube. One of the wheels forms a closed arc shaped mold chamber sealed toward the outside by a molding belt with one end of the chamber sealingly closed by the entering length with the laterally exiting flexible length or tube advancing axially through the other end and cut to the desired width to form individual belts. The circumferential length is varied by varying the distance between the wheels. The preform can be accurately formed from an unfinished belt by fusing around the fixed radial distance supported reinforcement using wheels in cooperation with a closed chamber prior to forming the tube.
