    Abstract: The cell poles of an electric battery, which have already been cast on a fully assembled plate group which is fixed in proper position for mounting in a holding box, are provided with a plastic coating using a dual injection mold which matches the predetermined distance between the poles. After the two mold halves are closed over the poles, a plastic melt is injected into cavities corresponding to the poles, which plastic is at the same time prevented from escaping from the mold by a gasket at the base of each cell pole, and a movable slide at the forwardmost end of each cell pole.

    Abstract: Method and apparatus for the edge grinding of a glass pane in which a grinding wheel is guided to the glass pane so that a grinding point is defined therebetween which travels along the edge of the rotating wheel. Cooling during grinding is provided by a coolant jet dispensed from a nozzle whose end is essentially pointed towards the grinding point. Via a respective control unit, the coolant jet is caused to follow automatically and precisely the movement of the grinding point.

    Abstract: A method of quench-tempering a hot shaped glass sheet comprises supporting the sheet in a quenching station underneath a downwardly directed upper nozzle array and above an upwardly directed lower nozzle array by engagement of only a portion of the lower surface of the sheet. The portion engaged for support is interrupted by a generally uniformly distributed array of unsupported regions. An air stream is directed from the lower nozzle array up toward the lower surface of the glass sheet while an opposite air stream is directed down from the upper nozzle array toward the upper surface of the sheet. Generally all of the lower surface of the sheet is shielded except at the unsupported regions from the air stream of the lower nozzle array. A prestress field is thus formed in the sheet which corresponds to the distribution of the unsupported regions. The sheet is supported on and shielded by a plate having the same shape as the sheet but formed with holes at the unsupported regions.

    Abstract: A method of deforming a plastic glass sheet from a generally two-dimensional shape into a generally three-dimensional shape at first supports the plastic glass sheet with its two-dimensional upper face juxtaposed underneath the three-dimensional lower face of a vacuum-forming die. The sheet and die are then relatively displaced vertically toward each other so that one portion of the sheet face engages a respective portion of the die face. The two portions are secured together by suction so that the sheet adheres at the one portion of its face to the respective portion of the die face. Finally, the sheet and die are relatively displaced with deformation of the sheet to press the rest of the sheet face and die face together and adhere the faces entirely together by suction. The sheet is supported on a planar conveyor that is rocked about a horizontal axis to engage the faces together. This conveyor and the die can be relatively rocked about a horizontal axis, or even about two transverse horizontal axes.

    Abstract: A method of grinding glass sheets whose edges are polygons that are not symmetrical about a point is carried out in an apparatus having a supply station for supporting a stack of such sheets with all of the sheets in the stack in vertical registration, a grinding station adjacent the supply station having a grinding table rotatable about an upright grinding axis and adapted to support the sheets during grinding, a template secured to the grinding table, and a pair of grinders in the grinding station radially engageable with the edges of the sheet on its grinding table and radially displaceable by the template. The method of the invention comprises the steps of transporting the sheets one at a time from the stack in the supply station to the grinding station, simultaneously engaging the grinders with the sheet in the grinding station while rotating this grinding table with its template and the sheet on the table through 180.degree.

    Abstract: In an electric storage battery having plate electrodes, the capacity and useful life is improved through uniform distribution of concentration and temperature of the electrolyte by means of electrolyte circulation. A synthetic plastic plate positioned between the plate electrodes and the housing wall of the storage battery contains a plurality of vertically extending transport tubes which are open at their upper and lower ends. The bottom portions of the transport tubes, which are immersed in the electrolyte, are connected to compressed air ducts. The compressed air is mixed with the electrolyte present in the transport tube in such a manner that the electrolyte-air mixture present therein is lifted, due to its lower specific gravity, by the electrolyte which surrounds the transport tube. The electrolyte leaving the transport tube produces continuous circulation within the storage battery, and this ensures permanent exchange of the electrolyte present between the plate electrodes.
