A lock bolt is mounted in a cross bore of the housing for displacement between a retracted and a locking position for the steering column of the vehicle. A spring biases the lock bolt into the locking position and displaces the lock cylinder outwardly, and a latch member on the lock bolt maintains the lock bolt in the retracted position when the lock cylinder is in the inward position.
