  • Patent number: 5526470
Abstract: Within a document printing system, a dot generator for determining dot ON/OFF states for a multiple channel matrix print head includes a RAM memory in which is stored print characters received from the print system. The received print characters are stored in ASCII format in predetermined character box memory locations within the RAM memory. The dot generator further includes a ROM memory having (1) a first storage area containing an association table correlating each one of the dot print addresses or locations within the document print zone with one of the character box memory locations within the RAM memory; (2) a second storage area containing an association table correlating each one of the dot print locations with a character box print location row and column number; and (3) a third storage area containing dot state ON/OFF values corresponding to each row of each standard ASCII character. A ROM lookup procedure is utilized to determine the ON/OFF state for each dot location within the print zone.

  • Patent number: 5519420
Abstract: A system for cleaning documents of dust particles as the documents are moved to a print station in a terminal where an ink jet printer is used to print on the documents. A vacuum manifold is positioned upstream of the print station to clean a document of dust as the document is moved towards the printer. A cyclone dust collector is used to collect the dust particles gathered by the vacuum manifold. An air curtain system provides a curtain of air between the print head of the printer and the face of the document to be printed upon to keep any dust particles left at the print station from coming into contact with the nozzles or jets of the printer.

  • Patent number: 4596185
Abstract: An endorsement printer for document processing systems is driven in a printing operation cycle by two separate motors. One motor, which may be of the stepping type, drives the endorsement printer in acceleration and deceleration modes before and after the actual operation of imprinting endorsement data on the document being processed. The second motor, which may be of the AC induction type, drives the endorsement printer at substantially constant velocity during the actual imprinting portion of the operation cycle. Cooperating disc and cam elements control the transmission of power from the second motor to the endorsement printer during the constant velocity portion of the cycle, during which the first motor is turned off. A data processing system receives information from a document sensor and a timing disc coupled to the first motor, and controls the operation of said motor.

  • Patent number: 4520270
Abstract: A circuit for adjusting the sensitivity of a sensor which is used typically in document handling equipment is disclosed. A special application of the circuit relates to using a plurality of the sensors in a height-determining operation which is used in conjunction with an imaging device, which scans or images the front, for example, of a document. The height of the particular document being scanned by the imaging device is used to "scan" only as far as the height of the document so as to eliminate meaningless data from the image of the document.

  • Patent number: 4203675
Abstract: A document or other record media along with an associated inked ribbon and a type character are pressed together at the same time from two sides by means of two pressing members pivoted on a common shaft. The pressing members are connected with a toggle linkage which is caused to be actuated from a home position to a printing position and return. The actuation of the linkage moves a platen and a hammer towards each other to perform the printing on the document.
