  • Patent number: 5256010
Abstract: A machine tool is disclosed having an inverted spotfacer chucked in a rotatable tapered spindle socket. The inverted spotfacer comprises an actuation shaft being rigidly axially connected to a tapered shank which, in turn, is chucked in the socket. A shoulder element can be displaced on the actuation shaft against the force of a spring. Further, a positive control mechanism acts between the actuation shaft and the shoulder element. Due to the action of the positive control mechanism, when axially displacing the actuation shaft relative to the shoulder element, a cutting tool arranged tiltably at the lower end of the actuation shaft may be tilted between two operational positions. In the first operational position the cutting tool extends parallel to the longitudinal axis of the spotfacer, whereas in the second operational position the cutting tool extends perpendicularly to the spotfacer axis, the second operational position being the position in which the spotfacer may make countersunk bores on workpieces.

  • Patent number: 4827599
Abstract: A machine tool comprises a tool exchange mechanism for transferring various tool holders from a magazine position into a working position of a rotating spindle of the machine tool. In order to minimize tool change times for standardized and non-standardized tool holders, frictional means between the tool holders and grippers of the tool exchange mechanism are provided as well as locking mechanism for maintaining a predetermined rotational position of the tool holders in the tool exchange mechanism. Thus, the tool holders may be inserted into the rotating receiving opening of the spindle with a predetermined rotational position or, if the tool holder rotational position deviates from another predetermined rotational position of the rotating spindle, the search time for establishing a form-locking driving relation between the spindle and the tool holder is minimized.

  • Patent number: 4616398
Abstract: A toolholder is provided for a machine tool having a magazine containing several toolholders from which a selected toolholder can be taken by means of an arm and introduced in a working position in a rotating receiving means of the machine tool. An arm with a holding part that can be rotated via a pivot bearing in the direction of the shaft of the receiving means, is applied to the toolholder. In order to prevent the rotatably disposed toolholder from being carried along in its rotation during introduction into the spindle of the machine tool by the form-fitting coupling means of the spindle, without said coupling means engaging with the toolholder, braking means are provided which, during the introduction of the toolholder into the rotating receiving means, increase the frictional connection between the holding piece and the toolholder.
