  • Patent number: 4800143
Abstract: A high-temperature storage battery includes a housing and a stack of at least two storage cells disposed in the housing. Each of the storage cells has components loosely disposed on top of one another in the stack. The components include two reactant chambers, a planar ion-conducting solid electrolyte mutually separating the reactant chambers, and planar components serving as electrodes and bordering the storage cells toward the outside. At least one common resilient structural element presses the components of all of the storage cells together in a leakproof manner.

  • Patent number: 4368431
Abstract: Electrochemical measuring device for determining the oxygen content in gases with approximately constant pressure, especially in combustion exhaust gases, with an oxygen ion-conducting solid electrolyte having two electrodes connected to a voltage source, and measuring changes in current. In combination with the electrical measuring device, a constriction is disposed in the path of the constant pressure gas stream with the constriction having a passageway of cross sectional area to pass the gas stream at the velocity of sound under the condition of critical pressure ratio dependent on a ratio of the pressure at the outflow side of the inflow side of the constriction which brings about sound velocity of the gas stream.

  • Patent number: 4155338
Abstract: A device is provided for controlling the flow of exhaust gases of an internal combustion engine in accordance with the operating conditions of the engine. Exhaust gases flowing from the exhaust manifold are routed either directly to the muffler or to a heat exchanger for heating the intake air/fuel mixture. The device includes a housing having ceramic valve which is rotatable in the housing and which has two parallel gas passages separated by a web-like wall. In a first rotational position of the valve, the flow of gases is directed from the manifold through both passages and directly out to the muffler. When the valve is in a second rotational position, the flow of gases is directed through one of the two passages and into the heat exchanger. From the heat exchanger, the flow is directed back through a return line into the second passage of the valve and thereafter to the muffler.

  • Patent number: 4155339
Abstract: A device is provided for controlling the flow of the exhaust gases of an internal combustion engine in accordance with the operating conditions of the engine. Exhaust gases flowing from the exhaust manifold are routed either directly to the muffler or to a heat exchanger for preheating the intake air/fuel mixture. The device includes an aeromechanical element having a nozzle-like constriction opening into an enlarged passage. A pair of outlets, connected to the muffler and heat exchanger, branch off from the passage following the constriction. The flow of gases is selectively directed through one of the two outlets by means of control line connections in the enlarged passage, which are supplied with either pressure, negative pressure, or both as the means for deflecting the flow.

  • Patent number: 4128469
Abstract: Electrochemical sensor for determining the oxygen content in gases, particularly in exhaust gases from burners or internal-combustion engines, having an ion-conducting solid-electrolyte tube closed at one end and open at the other end for the entry of reference gas to the interior of the tube, a housing surrounding the open end of the tube, electrodes on the inner and outer surfaces of the tube connected to external leads via contact areas, an insulating hollow body on the open end of the tube between the tube and housing, contact areas on a transversal shoulder, conductor strips from the electrodes to the shoulder, a structural unit in the housing standing on the shoulder, radially disposed electric conductors in the structural unit with the lower ends touching the contact areas and the upper ends forming the external connections, and a spring urging the structural unit against the contact areas.
