  • Patent number: 8996886
Abstract: Aspects of the present invention provide a solution for managing and retrieving encrypted biometric data. A plurality of biometric entries is obtained and each one is encrypted with a unique non-invertible encryption function to get a plurality of encrypted biometric entries. A biometric measurement to be compared against the biometric entries is obtained, a predetermined noise is applied to the biometric measurement, and then the biometric measurement if encrypted using the non-invertible encryption function, resulting in a scrambled encrypted biometric. For each comparison, one of the encrypted biometric entries is subtracted from the scrambled encrypted biometric to get a calculated noise. This calculated noise is then compared with the predetermined noise to determine whether a match exists. Based on a determination that a match exists any information associated with the encrypted biometric entry is forwarded to the requestor.

  • Patent number: 8908929
Abstract: Method, apparatus and computer program product compare biometrics in an anonymous manner. A first collection of biometrics is transformed using a first cancelable non-invertible biometric transform to create a first collection of transformed biometrics. A second collection of biometrics is transformed using the first cancelable non-invertible biometric transform to create a second collection of transformed biometrics. The first and second collection of transformed biometrics are then compared in the transformed domain to determine if any of the transformed biometrics from the first collection match any of the transformed biometrics from the second collection. If a match is found, the parties respectively maintaining the first and second collections of biometrics exchange information confidential nature of the biometrics are maintained by the entities responsible for the collections, since the biometrics are not compared in an untransformed state.

  • Patent number: 8752197
Abstract: The system and method obscures descriptive image information about one or more images. The system comprises a selector for selecting the descriptive image information from one or more of the images, a transformer that transforms the descriptive information into a transformed state, and an authorizer that provides authorization criteria with the image. In a preferred embodiment, the transformed state is the respective image encoded with the descriptive information. The descriptive information can be obscured so that the descriptive information in the transformed state can be decoded only if one or more authorization inputs satisfy the authorization criteria.

  • Publication number: 20120324235
Abstract: Methods and systems for remotely enrolling enrollees into biometric databases are provided. The method includes acquiring biometric data from one or more biometric sensors and authenticating an enrollee associated with the biometric data. The method includes enrolling the authenticated enrollee associated with the biometric data. The acquiring occurs externally from equipment that requires an identification. The method includes verifying individual samplings of the biometric data for quality at the time of enrollment based on a pre-determined threshold and verifying whether the enrollee presenting the biometric data is authenticated at the time of enrollment. The method includes signing a request of a third party with a private key associated with the third party, the signing denoting that the biometric data is verified for a transaction between the third party and the enrollee. The method includes sending the signed third party request to the third party to complete authenticating of the transaction.

  • Patent number: 8296573
Abstract: A method and system is provided to provide enrollment of biometric data from individuals without the need for the enrollees to travel to a central location. The system and method provides for optionally detecting multiple types of biometric data, for example, fingerprints, facial scan, visual scan, iris scan, voice scan, or the like, to be captured at the point of enrollee use. During the biometric capture process, the biometric enrollment device monitors and establishes the identity of the enrollee and measures the quality of the biometric input as it occurs. If unacceptable quality is detected, then repeated biometric scans may be necessary, but is done at time of enrollment avoiding any need to send inaccurate information back to a service institution. When the enrollment process completes, the biometric data is encrypted, time stamped and either mailed back to the service institution or is transmitted back.

  • Patent number: 8249314
Abstract: A biometric representation of a fingerprint from which the original biometric cannot be recovered (privacy) and which can be canceled and reissued. For example, based on an individual's token, the representation can be scrambled uniquely to the individual. From the scrambled biometric representation it is not feasible to reconstruct the biometric and if the representation is compromised, a new one is easily issued. In another aspect, if a biometric can be represented by some other one-dimensional structure, a distance or similarity measure is defined to compare biometrics. Verification decisions can be made based on the distance between or similarity of biometrics.

  • Patent number: 8126276
Abstract: A business method for using computer image processing for selectable task-based digital video compression is described. The method is intended to reduce travel of experts and let these experts direct field agents in performing tasks remotely. The tasks to be performed in the remote field can be monitoring, manipulating, and navigating. A field agent performs the manipulation and navigation operations, this agent can be a human being or a robot. The task-based compression algorithms use computer vision techniques to extract the bare minimum amount of information from the remote field scenery to allow the task to be performed. High frame rate photo-realistic reconstruction of the remote scene is not generally necessary.

  • Patent number: 7336296
Abstract: A system and method to estimate the absolute coarse pose of a rigid body, and more specifically of an individual's head as captured by overhead wide-angle cameras, by integrating position and pose information. Position information ideally includes three-dimensional position information provided by range finders or derived from images captured by multiple cameras. The three-dimensional position information can additionally be employed to determine the anchored viewing ray for the object.

  • Patent number: 7130452
Abstract: A system and method for multi-party authentication is described. The multi-party authentication process uses synchronous and persistent biometrics signals received from parties to a transaction, based on a policy, to approve a transaction request. The biometrics signals preferably are expressed as compressed video signals having steganographically inserted challenge response data. Several business applications are described that are based on the multi-party authentication engine.

  • Patent number: 7072523
Abstract: In an automatic fingerprint authentication or identification system, the fingerprint image acquisition is severely effected by the limitations of the acquisition process. The two modes of input, viz. scanning inked fingerprints from paper records or directly from a finger using live-scan fingerprint scanners suffer from the following noise sources in the input in addition to standard noise in the camera. Non-uniform ink application, uneven pressure while rolling on the paper or pressing on the scanner surface and external dirt like oil and climatic variations in the moisture content of skin are some of the main causes for the ridges and valleys not to be imaged clearly. This invention deals with a method of learning a set of partitioned least-sqaures filters that can be derived from a given set of images and ground truth pairs as an offline process. The learned filters are convolved with input fingerprint images to obtain the enhanced image.

  • Patent number: 6993535
Abstract: This invention is a business system and method to perform categorization (classification) of multimedia items and to make business decisions based on the categorization of the item. The multimedia items are comprised of a multitude of disparate information sources, in particular, visual information and textual information. Classifiers are induced based on combining textual and visual feature vectors. Textual features are the traditional ones. Visual features include, but are not limited to, color properties of key intervals and motion properties of key intervals. The visual feature vectors are determined in such a fashion that the vectors are sparse. The text and the visual representation vectors are combined in a systematic and coherent fashion. This vector representation of a media item lends itself to well-established learning techniques and can be used for multimedia item categorization. The resulting business system, subject of this invention, can be used for many purposes.

  • Patent number: 6941001
Abstract: The present invention combines the functionality of a computer pointing device with a fingerprint authentication system, In the preferred embodiment, by regularly scanning fingerprints acquired from the pointing device touch pad, fingerprint features may be extracted and compared to stored data on authorized users for passive authentication. Furthermore, calculations based upon the acquired fingerprint images and associated features allows the system to determine six degrees of freedom of the finger, allowing the user to control a variety of functions or to manipulate a three-dimensional model or virtual reality system.
