Patent number: 5168898Abstract: A valve apparatus which contains two valve bodies oriented behind one another on a tappet. The first valve body, together with a first valve seat, forms a first valve and the second valve body, together with a second valve seat, forms a second valve. With two valve bodies rigidly connected to one another, it is possible, such as on account of manufacturing tolerances, that when the two valves are closed, one of the two valve bodies will not seat exactly on its corresponding valve seat, which means that leaks can occur. The present invention provides for at least one of the two valve seats or at least one of the two valve bodies being adjustable in the direction of the longitudinal axis of the tappet in relation either to the other valve seat or in relation to the other valve body to change the distance between the two valve seats or to change the distance between the two valve bodies.Type: GrantFiled: June 17, 1991Date of Patent: December 8, 1992Assignee: Mannesmann AktiengesellschaftInventors: Helmut Gottling, Reinhard Mauentobben, Rudolf Moller, Gerhard Scharnowski

Patent number: 5035171Abstract: A working cylinder is described which features a cylinder of compact construction. The openings provided for the tension member can be very well sealed by simple means. The tension element features a cross-section having a continuous circumferential line. Patent number: 5022311Abstract: A compact fluid actuated working cylinder is disclosed having a cam driven by a piston via a flexible tension member. At the ends of the cylinder housing there are deflection pulleys for providing continuous tension for the tension member. The pulleys are each mounted on pulley supports which extend from secondary bores in the main cylinder housing. The pulley supports are spring loaded and urge the two pulleys away from the cylinder housing and each other. The pulley supports are preferably rectangular in cross-section to protect against torsion.Type: GrantFiled: March 20, 1990Date of Patent: June 11, 1991Assignee: WABCO Westinghouse Steuerungstechnik GmbH & Co.Inventors: Norbert Fortmann, Helmut Gottling, Hans F. Patent number: 4910491Abstract: An electrical apparatus is provided for use with a potentiometer or variable resistance element which does not require a mechanical connection between a contact member and an activating mechanism. This is accomplished by using a magnet in at least a portion of either the contact member or the activating mechanism while constructing at least a portion of the other of such contact member and the activating mechanism of a ferromagnetic material.Type: GrantFiled: November 6, 1987Date of Patent: March 20, 1990Assignee: WABCO Westinghouse Steuerungstechnik GmbHInventors: Helmut Gottling, Ralf Kook, Rudolf Moller, Peter Muller, Gerhard Scharnowski

Patent number: 4680436Abstract: A contactless proximity switch and mounting arrangement for determining the position of a movable member within a cylinder which has two end covers secured on the cylinder by means of a plurality of tie rods, includes a switch housing which secures to one of the tie rods. A contact opening formed in the switch housing has disposed therein, a switch having a pair of contacts and a permanent magnet disposed in a fixed manner. One pole of the permanent magnet is connected to a first contact, while the second pole is disposed in a contacting relation to the cylinder. A second contact is electrically coupled to the cylinder at a position a predetermined distance from where the second pole is disposed. As the movable member, which is constructed of a ferromagnetic material, nears the switch housing, the air gap between the second contact and second pole is bridged and the contacts close indicating the proximity of the movable member to the switch element.Type: GrantFiled: July 28, 1986Date of Patent: July 14, 1987Assignee: WABCO Westinghouse Steuerungstechnik GmbH & Co.Inventors: Walter Brausfeld, Helmut Gottling, Rudolf Moller, Peter Muller, Gerhard Scharnowski

Patent number: 4656457Abstract: A position-sensing potentiometer arrangement for sensing the position of a movable piston and piston rod configuration within a linear actuator includes a first support member extending longitudinally within an open-ended recess formed in the rod and a sliding contact mounted thereon. A tubular support is mounted to a stationary closed end of the linear actuator and extends into the recess to surround a portion of the first support member and a center support member which is also mounted on the closed end of the a actuator. A longitudinally-extending resistance element and a parallel conductor element are mounted on and supported by the center support member. As the first support member moves through the tubular support, the sliding contacts couple the resistance element to the conductor element to provide a resistance value variable as a function of the position of the piston rod.Type: GrantFiled: October 3, 1985Date of Patent: April 7, 1987Assignee: WABCO Westinghouse Steuerungstechnik GmbHInventors: Walter Brausfeld, Helmut Gottling, Rudolf Moller, Peter Muller, Gerhard Scharnowski

Patent number: 4627597Abstract: This invention relates to an activation apparatus for valves, specifically electromagnetically-activated multiway valves. The activation apparatus exhibits an activation element having a first stop and a second stop, which are arranged in facing-relation to one another, and to a housing projection formed by a graduated opening leading into the valve, so that a movement of the activation element, in the direction of its longitudinal axis, is limited or prevented. On the circumference of the activation element, there is a sealing element which is in sealed contact against the wall of the housing recess or graduated opening, which holds the activation element. The two stops and the sealing element are permanently connected with the activation element so as to form essentially a single-body construction.Type: GrantFiled: December 17, 1985Date of Patent: December 9, 1986Assignee: Wabco Westinghouse Steuerungstechnik GmbH & Co.Inventors: Walter Brausfeld, Helmut Gottling, Rudolf Moller, Peter Muller, Gerhard Scharnowski

Patent number: 4566196Abstract: A variable point position determining arrangement includes a housing having a stationary portion secured to a fixed member as, for example working cylinder, and an extendable portion secured to a member movable in relation to the fixed member, as for example piston rod. An elastic element, such as a tension spring, is connected between the stationary portion and an extendable portion of the housing. Such elastic element is stretched or relaxed an amount proportionate to the travel of the movable member. The displacement transducer having an actuator rod and a projecting pin connected to the elastic element at approximately a middle point, follows movement of the elastic element and outputs a distance signal which is a function of the movement of the actuator rod and elastic element. The distance signal can be fed to a control circuit to derive the position value of the movable member therefrom.Type: GrantFiled: September 4, 1984Date of Patent: January 28, 1986Assignee: WABCO Westinghouse Steuerungstechnik GmbH & Co.Inventors: Walter Brausfeld, Helmut Gottling, Rudolf Moller, Peter Muller, Gerhard Scharnowski

Patent number: 4401293Abstract: An arrangement wherein fluid pressure passageways opening into inner chambers of a cylindrical housing of a valve device, are formed between abutting faces of two axially aligned cylindrical portions comprising the housing. The opening or passageway between the abutting faces is formed by complementarily engaging saw-like teeth formed around the annular abutting faces of the two housing portions. This arrangement provides a smoother surface over which the sealing gasket on a valve member must ride, thus resulting in less wear and tear on the gasket.Type: GrantFiled: September 24, 1981Date of Patent: August 30, 1983Assignee: WABCO Steuerungstechnik GmbHInventors: Gerhard Rodewald, Detlef Opel, Walter Brausfeld, Helmut Gottling, Hans-Friedrich Meyer, Rudolf Moller
