  • Patent number: 8560212
Abstract: In a method for generating an internal combustion engine configured to run on both a gas fuel and a liquid fuel, the shutoff valve of the gas injection system is initially closed, the engine is then operated with the liquid fuel, and subsequently all gas injection valves of the gas injection system are opened in a predefined pattern while the shutoff valve is still closed.

  • Patent number: 5542396
Abstract: A method of ventilating vapors from a fuel tank into an intake pipe of an internal combustion engine in the upper partial-load range and in the region of the full load on the internal combustion engine, a regeneration valve is first of all moved into an open position and a shut-off valve provided in a ventilating conduit of an adsorption filter is then closed. The fuel vapors then flow into the intake pipe by virtue of the intake pipe vacuum and assisted by the vapor pressure of the fuel in the fuel tank and then burned in at least one combustion space of the internal combustion engine. The method according to the invention for ventilating a fuel system is intended for use in motor vehicles.

  • Patent number: 5327780
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and an arrangement for monitoring the operability of a heater of an oxygen-measuring probe which is mounted in the exhaust-gas channel of an internal combustion engine. The principle of operation of the invention is based on the fact that the supply voltage of the probe heater drops during loading by the electrical resistance of the heating element. The voltage difference is dependent upon the magnitude of the resistance and therefore at least the three states can be distinguished, namely: normal operation, circuit interruption and short circuit. The operational state of the probe heater which is so determined is displayed to the driver by activation of a corresponding control unit and/or is stored, as required, in a fault memory. The arrangement according to the invention can be realized by a computer or in a compact configuration and is suitable for use in a central control apparatus.

  • Patent number: 5022374
Abstract: The invention is directed to a sequential fuel injection method wherein the first injection end time point is determined at which the preinjections end. In addition, the first intake end time point is determined at which a signal occurs for the first time after the start of the method which is evaluated as a signal that indicates the end of an induction operation. Furthermore, a determination is made for which cylinder the above-mentioned time point applies. If the first-mentioned time point lies ahead of the second-mentioned time point, the sequential fuel injection is started for the determined cylinder. For the opposite position of the mentioned time points, the injection valve for that particular cylinder is driven whose induction cycle follows the determined cylinder with the injection valve being so driven that the entire fuel quantity is injected which was computed for the sequential injection.

  • Patent number: 4941446
Abstract: An ignition and injection system for internal combustion engines is suggested in which a phase sensor which includes a sensor drum driven synchronously with the ignition distributor, particularly a Hall sensor drum formed with a plurality of cut-out portions, one of which is wider than the cut-out portions, and indicates the beginning of an ignition or injection cycle in emergency running. The cut-out portions produce correspondingly long timing pulses, at the beginning of which the ignition coil is charged until the trailing edge occurs and the ignition is effected. The trailing edge of the timing pulses can occur e.g. 10.degree. before the top dead center of the respective cylinder.

  • Patent number: 4831992
Abstract: The invention is directed to a method for compensating for the tank venting error in a learning fuel metering system metering the required fuel quantity to an internal combustion engine. The method includes carrying out the lambda correction with adaptively learned precontrol values also in phases of the tank venting so that the disturbing quantities which are introduced by the tank venting can likewise be learned out; however, the obtained learn values are entered in separate memory locations dependent upon whether they have been determined during the basic adaptation or during the adaptation with tank venting. These learn values are switched to the lambda control as precontrol corrective values in accordance with the time control determining the sequence of the base adaptation phases and tank venting adaptation phases. The invention is also directed to an apparatus for carrying out the steps of the method of the invention.
