  • Patent number: 6207017
Abstract: A method for determining the effect of an adjustment of actuators used in the manufacture of web of material which are arranged spatially over the width of the web and influence the properties of the web of material, the method being characterized by the fact that, upon the adjustment of one actuator, a prediction as to the effect of the adjustment of the actuator which is derived from detection values on the behavior of the cross section of the property of the web upon the change of actuators is made; that at least one cross section of a property of the web is measured before and after the adjustment of the actuators; that the prediction as to the effect of the actuator adjustments is compared with the measured effect; and that the existing detection values are modified until better agreement is obtained between predicted effect and measured effect.

At least one pulp consistency sensor is provided for sectional pulp consistency control, which may be located in a return portion of the pulp distributing line. A weight basis cross-sectional adjustment sensor and controller may also be used; with the pulp consistency controller arranged to operate with a significantly higher sensing rate than the weight basis cross-sectional adjustment controller.

  • Patent number: 5922407
Abstract: A method of application of a liquid or pasty medium onto a moving material web consisting, in particular, of paper or cardboard, in which a direct application (2) of a liquid or pasty medium (4) onto one side of a moving material web (1) and a contactless deflection (3) of the moving material web along a curved path of motion ensues, the side of the moving material web to be provided with the liquid or pasty medium passing through a concave curvature and the direct application (2) of the liquid or pasty medium ensuing directly ahead of the deflection (3) or during the deflection as a free jet along a contactlessly guided section of the moving material web. Additionally, an apparatus for implementing the method is described.

  • Patent number: 5900121
Abstract: Dosing feeder for the breast box of a papermaking machine. The metering device of this invention serves for the addition or the removal of fluids into or from the breast box of a papermaking machine and includes a chamber for the reception of fluids, with the chamber including a number of metering openings that are connected with the suspension-carrying parts of the breast box via throttling devices, whereby the fluid can be added or removed locally.

  • Patent number: 5785815
Abstract: Process for damping pressure pulsations and apparatus for performing the process. The process of this invention serves for the damping of pressure pulsations in a fluid, particularly a fiber suspension, flowing in a closed system wherein the pressure pulsations to be damped are measured at a measuring site and compensated at a correction site, with a throttle position being located between the measuring and the correction sites, with the damping of the imparted pressure impulses occurring at the correction site, which pressure impulses are opposite to the measured pressure pulsations, with the time periods thereof being about the same as those of the measured pressure pulsations. Several apparatuses for performing the process are also set forth.

  • Patent number: 5298122
Abstract: A measuring bridge, fixed in place above a moving paper web and disposed crosswise to it, is provided, having a measuring head, movable back and forth--crosswise to the paper web--, for determining the measuring values for judging the thickness of the paper web at the measuring spots or point on top of which the measuring head happens to be. The measuring device, has a process management system, in which a traversing flow program has been installed, in accordance with which the traversing time and/or the reversing time of the measuring head are changed after each traverse of the measuring bridge. Because of this, the frequency of the measurements along the web becomes irregular. This prevents false evaluations of the cross section and, as a consequence, inappropriate control instructions of a control computer.

  • Patent number: 5096541
Abstract: The method serves for actively damping vibrations on a paper-making machine. The kinematic quantities which describes the movements of the paper-making machine or parts thereof produced by the vibrations are measured and are processed as measurement signals. Between relatively movable masses, at least one of which belongs to the vibratable structure of the paper-making machine, is provided at least one servo motor which is controlled by a control unit. Movement of this servo motor is produced in such a way that it is directed opposite to the vibrational movement to be damped. The movement produced in this way for damping the vibrations can be produced both between parts of the paper-making machine and between part of the paper-making machine and a movable additional mass provided expressly for this purpose. A damper which can also be incorporated into the servo motor can be provided to reduce the vibrational energy.

  • Patent number: 4915789
Abstract: For uniform and regular adjustment of a diaphragm blade within the elastic deformability thereof, the diaphragm blade provided at the slice opening of a headbox of a papermaking machine is movable by means of adjusting elements driveable by adjustment motors. The adjusting elements are arranged in an appropriate spaced relationship substantially parallel to the diaphragm blade and coupled therewith in order to apply a force upon the diaphragm blade at connecting locations thereof. At each of the adjustment motors there can be individually set or adjusted during an adjusting operation prior to starting the adjustment motors the momentarily desired thrust speed and the momentarily desired thrust distance or travel for the respective adjusting element. All adjustment motors are simultaneously started and simultaneously stopped subsequent to reaching the desired position or location of the diaphragm blade.
