  • Patent number: 6042689
Abstract: An apparatus for joining flat electrical components uses a flexible foil with electrical conductor tracks and an electrically conductive adhesive. A workpiece receptacle receives workpieces to be joined, and a heatable die is pressed against the workpiece receptacle and in so doing adhesively bonds the workpieces under the influence of heat and pressure and electrically conductively joins them to one another. Resiliently supported metal peripheral elements which are disposed on both sides next to the workpiece receptacle, are adapted in terms of their spacing to the width of the respective workpiece. In particular, LCD components and printed circuit boards are joined together, for example for on-board computers for motor vehicles, for telephones and for other devices equipped with liquid crystal displays.

  • Patent number: 5901140
Abstract: This invention is an implementation of a congestion control mechanism, especially for ATM networks supporting data services or other nonreserved bandwidth traffic, e.g. in multimedia applications. It reacts immediately upon detection of a traffic bottleneck by selectively and temporarily holding back the data traffic that is to pass the bottleneck (5). A congested node (3) transmits congestion notifications (36) containing routing label information and deferment information to upstream nodes (2), thus enabling selective, temporary throttling action. If congestions persist, further notifications may be spread backwards step by step, eventually reaching the sources. A specific implementation is given for PRIZMA type switching nodes.

  • Patent number: 5764392
Abstract: A node for an access control system for a multi-channel data transmission ring is disclosed. Access to a channel is controlled exclusively by one node, which is the only data receiving node connected to that channel. The receiving node generates slots so that other connected nodes can transfer data to the receiving node. The receiving node can provide balanced access to the channel by all connected nodes. Further embodiments feature prevention of congestion in the buffer of the receiving node. The invention is particularly useful for wavelength division multiplexed (WDM) optical rings.

  • Patent number: 4530733
Abstract: Reinforcing fiber materials such as rovings, webbings, and other fiber maials are impregnated with a resinous binder material in such a manner that gaseous inclusions are avoided whereby a surprising increase in the strength of the fiber compound material is achieved. For this purpose the liquid resinous binder material is applied substantially only to one side of the reinforcing material which is then moved through an absorbing zone in which the liquid resinous binder material penetrates the reinforcing material substantially completely as a result of a predetermined residence time and temperature in the absorbing zone. Gas inclusions are removed by adsorption and/or by expulsion. The gas adsorbing and expulsion zone is a chamber in which a plurality of guide rollers are arranged so as to cause the impregnated material to repeatedly reverse its moving direction, whereby the sequential and repeated penetration of the reinforcing material by the resinous material and the removal of gas inclusions are enhanced.

  • Patent number: 4309865
Abstract: Windings of fiber compound materials are produced on a core in multicourses hereby the fiber arrangement may change from course to course. For this purpose a plurality of fiber coil carriers are arranged in sequence one after the other as viewed in the direction of core advancement. The fiber coil carriers are arranged coaxially relative to the core. The coils of fibers are supported by the fiber coil carriers. The r.p.m. of each fiber coil carrier is adjustable independently of the r.p.m. of any other coil carrier. Each r.p.m. is adjusted to be inversely proportional to the desired pitch of the fibers in the respective winding course. The direction of rotation of each coil carrier is also selectable independently of the rotational direction of any other coil carrier.

  • Patent number: 4278351
Abstract: A high resolution interferometer is provided which is insensitive to slight misalignment of its elements, avoids channeling in the spectrum, generates a maximum equal path fringe contrast, produces an even two-sided interferogram without critical matching of the wedge angles of the beamsplitter and compensator wedges, and is optically phase tunable. The interferometer includes a mirror along the path of each beam component produced by the beamsplitter, for reflecting the beam component from the beamsplitter to a corresponding retroreflector and for reflecting the beam returned by the retroreflector back to the beamsplitter. The fact that the mirror "covers" the retroreflector, so that the mirror reflects the beam component before and after it reaches the retroreflector, results in the system being insensitive to slight tilting of the mirror.

  • Patent number: 4201815
Abstract: Shear transfer elements can be formed by winding or weaving unidirectional fibers on a support structure. In a winding operation the support structure consists of two intersecting planes of winding mandrels with the planes arranged in angularly spaced relation. Each plane has two pair of mandrels with the mandrels in each pair located on the opposite sides of the line of intersection between the two planes. After the fibers are wound on the mandrels, each mandrel is axially disposed in the opposite direction relative to the other mandrel in the pair and also to the adjacent mandrel in the other pair in the same plane. Next, the fibers are pressed to form the shear transfer element. In a weaving operation, the support structure consists of a pair of pivotally interconnected frames. The fibers are woven onto holders on the sides of each frame extending parallel to the pivot axis of the frames.

  • Patent number: 4193693
Abstract: A velocity servo for a continuous scan Fourier interference spectrometer of the double-pass retroreflector type having two "cat's eye" retroreflectors uses an open-loop, lead-screw drive system for one retroreflector with compensation for any variations in speed of drive of the lead screw provided by sensing any variation in the rate of reference laser fringes, and producing an error signal from such variation used to compensate by energizing a moving-coil actuator for the other retroreflector optical path, and energizing (through a highpass filter) piezoelectric actuators for the secondary mirrors of the retroreflectors.

  • Patent number: 4190996
Abstract: The corner of a structural member has first, second, third and fourth surfaces which converge to form the corner with first, second and third layers of fiber reinforced material successively applied to the corner surfaces to form the walls of the corner. The first layer of fiber reinforced material completely covers the first and second surfaces and partially covers the third and fourth surfaces. The second layer completely covers the second and fourth surfaces and that part of the third surface which remained uncovered by the first layer, and the third layer completely covers the first and third surfaces and that part of the fourth surface which remained uncovered by the first layer. The three layers arranged in this manner therefore produces corner walls having a thickness corresponding to two of the layers. The fibers in the two layers forming the walls extend in directions transverse to each other and form patterns different from each other.

  • Patent number: 4181440
Abstract: An over-under double-pass interferometer in which the beamsplitter area and thickness can be reduced to conform only with optical flatness considerations is achieved by offsetting the optical center line of one cat's-eye retroreflector relative to the optical center line of the other in order that one split beam be folded into a plane distinct from the other folded split beam. The beamsplitter is made transparent in one area for a first folded beam to be passed to a mirror for doubling back and is made totally reflective in another area for the second folded beam to be reflected to a mirror for doubling back. The two beams thus doubled back are combined in the central, beam-splitting area of the beamsplitter and passed to a detector. This makes the beamsplitter insensitive to minimum-thickness requirements and selection of material.
