Patent number: 7739951Abstract: A printed product, with a number of inserts, is printed on a printing machine. The pages of the inserts are printed by the printing machine as product pages on the web. The web is then folded in a folder that is a part of the printing machine to thereby form at least one of the inserts of the printed product. The printed product is laid out at an exit of the folder and the web is folded in such a manner that a final format of each insert completely shows one of these printed pages. Before the printed product is laid out at the exit of the folder, inserts which belong to the same printed product are collected in the folder by placing these inserts one atop the other.Type: GrantFiled: August 1, 2005Date of Patent: June 22, 2010Assignee: Koenig & Bauer AktiengesellschaftInventor: Rudolf Stäb

Patent number: 7442158Abstract: A folding apparatus includes at least a first folding cylinder and a second, folding jaw cylinder. A third measuring cylinder is also provided. The measuring cylinder is usable to cut product sections or signatures of a determined length L from an endless web. The first cylinder is embodied, in one embodiment, as an engaging cylinder, and as a second embodiment as a puncture cylinder. In both embodiments, the product section or signatures which are produced, have the same length.Type: GrantFiled: January 12, 2005Date of Patent: October 28, 2008Assignee: Koenig & Bauer AktiengesellschaftInventors: Holger Ratz, Rudolf Stäb

Patent number: 7351189Abstract: A cutting device is used to accomplish the transverse cutting of at last one material web. The cutting device includes a transport cylinder that is arranged to form a first cutting gap in cooperation with a first transverse cutting device. The transport cylinder is also arranged with a second transverse cutting device to form a second cutting gap.Type: GrantFiled: February 28, 2003Date of Patent: April 1, 2008Assignee: Koenig & Bauer AktiengesellschaftInventor: Rudolf Stäb

Patent number: 7311651Abstract: A transport or conveying device is used in a folding apparatus for transporting or conveying signatures. A transport or conveying cylinder, which carries the signatures, is placed in cooperative engagement with another cylinder. A position of a terminal end of a signature carried on the transport or conveying cylinder can be altered. The other cylinder that cooperates with the transport or conveying cylinder includes devices that press on the signature and that displace the end of the signature.Type: GrantFiled: February 28, 2003Date of Patent: December 25, 2007Assignee: Koenig & Bauer AktiengesellschaftInventor: Rudolf Stäb

Patent number: 6902519Abstract: A folding device for use with a rotary printing press includes a folding-jaw cylinder and a folding blade cylinder. The folding blade cylinder is movable with respect to the folding-jaw cylinder between a working position where it cooperates with the folding-jaw cylinder and a rest position where it is moved away from the folding-jaw cylinder.Type: GrantFiled: May 16, 2001Date of Patent: June 7, 2005Assignee: Koenig & Bauer AktiengesellschaftInventors: Rudolf Philipp Öchsner, Rudolf Stäb
-
Patent number: 6895858Abstract: A collecting cylinder for a folder unit is provided with at least one disk cam that has peripheral switching depressions. These switching depressions can be covered by using an auxiliary curved trajectory which is created by a pivoting drive. Switching levers are selectively blocked or unblocked by motor-driven rotatable switching parts.Type: GrantFiled: April 4, 2002Date of Patent: May 24, 2005Assignee: Koenig & Bauer AktiengesellschaftInventors: Simon Kostiza, Viktor Cernovski, Karl-Heinz Fischer, Sebastian Alois Prüm, Rudolf Stäb

Patent number: 6321902Abstract: A device for dividing the flow of signatures into two paths of signatures uses two cam rows and a stationary guide wedge. Two conveyor belt systems initially deliver the signatures to a leading edge of the guide wedge. This leading edge is provided with guide channels into and out of which the conveyor belts in each of the two conveyor belt systems are alternatingly moved by high and low cam portions of the cam disks carried on the two cam rows.Type: GrantFiled: February 10, 2000Date of Patent: November 27, 2001Assignee: Koenig & Bauer AktiengesellschaftInventor: Rudolf Stäb
-
Patent number: 6220427Abstract: A displaceable conveyor is used to convey selected printed products to different destination points. A reversing device is positioned intermediate the different destination points and a rigid guide track. A partial guide path connects the reversing device with the rigid guide track.Type: GrantFiled: April 7, 1999Date of Patent: April 24, 2001Assignee: Koenig & Bauer AktiengesellschaftInventors: Holger Ratz, Rudolf Stäb

Patent number: 6213461Abstract: Printed products are guided from an infeed to a delivery belt by a plurality of partially overlapping paddle blades. The paddle blades are secured to an endless carrier such as a chain or a toothed belt. The printed products are deposited on the delivery belt in a smooth, gentle manner as they slip out of the pockets defined by the adjacent overlapping paddles.Type: GrantFiled: April 9, 1999Date of Patent: April 10, 2001Assignee: Koenig & Bauer AktiengesellschaftInventors: Holger Ratz, Rudolf Stäb

Patent number: 5305993Abstract: A folder assembly for a sheet fed printing machine utilizes a collect cylinder that is capable of operating in collect or non-collect modes. A first cross-stitching cylinder and a second cross-stitching cylinder are placed adjacent the collect cylinder. A transfer and jaw cylinder receives cross-stitched signatures and forwards them to a delivery unit.Type: GrantFiled: May 27, 1992Date of Patent: April 26, 1994Assignee: Albert-Frankenthal AktiengesellschaftInventor: Rudolf Staeb

Patent number: 5287805Abstract: In a folding apparatus with a collect cylinder (1) which can be switched from collect production to non-collect production, the holding elements and folding blades of which are connected with actuating elements, preferably embodied as scanner rollers (14, 15), which can be controlled by a respectively associated radial cam (12 or 13), the control area of which, preferably embodied as a control recess (16), can be selectively uncovered or covered by means of a cover device provided with cover cams (17) disposed on a drivable cam support (22) which is coaxial with the radial cam (12 or 13), a great variability in respect to feasible collect operations is attained in that the cover cams 17.1-17.8 of each cover device are received radially displaceable on the respectively associated cam support (22).Type: GrantFiled: August 19, 1992Date of Patent: February 22, 1994Assignee: Albert-Frankenthal AktiengesellschaftInventors: Emil Fischer, Rudolf Staeb
