Patent number: 5048645Abstract: A re-usable wear indicator (14) detachably secured to the pad carrier plate (2), especially intended for a disc-type brake shoe (1), which is located at the same point as is a spring (8) precluding rattling from occurring. This measure enables a recess (4) in the brake pad (3), required for fixing the spring, to be used, at the same time, to accommodate the wear indicator (14). The fixation is with the aid of a snap or O-ring (20) secured in an annular groove (19) on an extension (17) of the wear indicator (14), which ring (20) undergrips the constricted first end (21) of a hollow clip (22).Type: GrantFiled: June 1, 1990Date of Patent: September 17, 1991Assignee: Alfred Teves GmbHInventors: Rudolf Thiel, Ulrich Klimt, Reiner Mueller, Christoph Veith

Patent number: 4856620Abstract: A spot-type disc brake comprises a brake support member and a brake caliper guided via pins mounted in the brake support member. The brake caliper pressurizes the brake shoes arranged on either side of a brake disc by virtue of a brake piston on a bore. The brake shoe lying opposite to the piston is supported on the end face in the brake caliper, while the other brake shoe bears against the end face in the brake support member. To prevent inclined positioning of the brake caliper which results in tapered wear at the brake shoes, the retaining arm arranged in the brake disc's direction of rotation at the brake disc exit is dimensioned such in cross-section that its deformation in the circumferential direction of the brake disc will not be much larger than the fit clearance available between the brake piston and the bore.Type: GrantFiled: March 29, 1985Date of Patent: August 15, 1989Assignee: Alfred Teves GmbHInventors: Rudolf Thiel, Ulrich Klimt, Helmut Kast

Patent number: 4805745Abstract: A spot-type disc brake, especially for automotive vehicles, comprises a brake carrier and a brake housing having two radial legs and an interconnecting bridge so as to straddle the rim of a brake disc. Brake pads disposed on either side of the brake disc, with the brake housing being disposed in axially displaceable manner on the brake carrier and actuable by an actuating device. To avoid a screw connection on the outer brake pad, for attaching a brake pad to the adjacent leg of the brake housing, at least one attachment element engages, in a locking manner, ports of the leg and of the brake pad. A spring is secured to the brake pad by way of which the brake pad is resiliently in abutment with bearing points provided on the brake housing.Type: GrantFiled: March 23, 1987Date of Patent: February 21, 1989Assignee: Alfred Teves GmbHInventor: Rudolf Thiel

Patent number: 4757883Abstract: An internally straddling type disc brake for automotive vehicles is disclosed including a cast brake ring having two spaced apart sectional friction brake rings defining two braking surfaces separated by a plurality of axial ribs defining a plurality of peripheral cooling ducts between the sectional friction rings. At least two peripheral radial connecting elements extend from the ribs centrally between the sectional friction brake rings and are connected to corresponding connecting sections on a brake carrier.Type: GrantFiled: October 6, 1986Date of Patent: July 19, 1988Assignee: Alfred Teves GmbHInventors: Rudolf Thiel, Guenther Schwarz
-
Patent number: 4736822Abstract: A brake pad retention spring for spot-type disc brakes for automotive vehicles is disclosed including a fastening section for securing the spring to a pad backing plate and three spring arms for engagement into a brake member such as a brake piston wherein two of the spring arms extend substantially in a circumferential direction relative to the brake disc and the third spring arm extends substantially in a radial direction. In order to permit radial pad replacement with comparatively thin pads with the housing in its mounted position, the invention provides for the radial spring arm to have a bent section extending substantially parallel to the backing plate and having an adjacent end section extending substantially radially.Type: GrantFiled: July 25, 1986Date of Patent: April 12, 1988Assignee: Alfred Teves GmbHInventors: Rudolf Thiel, Ulrich Klimt, Dalibor Zaviska

Patent number: 4643278Abstract: An actuating apparatus is provided for use in a disc brake. The disc brake includes a brake piston slidably accommodated in a brake cylinder. A mechanically actuatable brake lever is non-rotatably coupled to an actuating shaft. The actuating shaft is rotatably accommodated in a bore in a brake cylinder housing. A thrust member is positioned between the actuating shaft and the piston or a further actuating element. A spring preloads the brake lever in the direction of rotation toward a final position. To create an actuating apparatus easy to set-up and mount, the spring also urges the actuating shaft in an axial direction against a stop or a support.Type: GrantFiled: January 25, 1985Date of Patent: February 17, 1987Assignee: Alfred Teves GmbHInventors: Rudolf Thiel, Andreas Doell

Patent number: 4613018Abstract: A braking caliper for a pressure medium-operated spot-type disc brake is provided. The wheel cylinder piston for forcing the brake pads are held in a bore of a braking caliper which embraces the edge of the brake disc. The outer cylindrical surface of the pot-shaped wheel cylinder comprises a flange or collar which is in abutment with a shoulder provided between the two sections of the bore formed as a stepped bore. The outer cylindrical surface of the wheel cylinder is press fit in the bore of the braking caliper.Type: GrantFiled: November 16, 1984Date of Patent: September 23, 1986Assignee: ITT Industries, Inc.Inventors: Rolf Weiler, Rudolf Thiel, Uwe Bach, Peter Panek

Patent number: 4586427Abstract: In prior art vacuum brake boosters the partition wall is supported by a control hub. The boosting force is transmitted through the hub to a force transmitting serving to actuate the master cylinder. According to the present invention the partition wall includes a central sleeve of a stepped configuration which serves to transmit the boosting force without loading the hub. As a result the hub can be produced from a thermoplastic material of just sufficient strength to meet the reduced force transmitting requirements and which is easier to mold.Type: GrantFiled: April 19, 1984Date of Patent: May 6, 1986Assignee: ITT Industries, Inc.Inventor: Rudolf Thiel

Patent number: 4350076Abstract: In the brake booster known in the prior art, the partition wall comprises a metal disc supported by a control hub made of a plastic material. The force exerted on the partition wall is transmitted through the hub to a force transmitting member actuating a master brake cylinder. According to the present invention the hub is composed of a metal sleeve transmitting the forces and a guiding neck of plastic material including all air guiding channels of the control valve disposed therein. This guiding neck can be manufactured much easier and can be made of a plastic material of just sufficient strength to meet the reduced force transmitting requirements.Type: GrantFiled: April 24, 1980Date of Patent: September 21, 1982Assignee: ITT Industries, Inc.Inventor: Rudolf Thiel

Patent number: 3979251Abstract: Production of pile fabric with repetitive cutting of incremental lengths of fiber with a moveable cutter. The increments are sequentially packed onto a guide, such as a shaft conveyor, and then delivered to and implanted on an adhesive coated carrier or backing moving on a carrier conveyor. To prevent disordering of the fibers, the fiber is caused to retract from the cutter upon retraction of the cutter.Type: GrantFiled: March 5, 1975Date of Patent: September 7, 1976Assignee: Firma Otto Golze & Sohne, KokoswebereiInventors: Rudolf Thiel, Kurt Witt
