  • Patent number: 4413378
Abstract: The present invention concerns a method for processing a fiber sliver in a drafting arrangement, and a drafting arrangement for implementing the method. The objective for a drafting arrangement, which can be adapted to a wide range of staple lengths, to draft a fiber sliver at high speeds, has led to the following features of the invention:(a) The fiber sliver is deflected simultaneously in the drafting process systematically in such a manner that, the fiber sliver can be inserted into the subsequently arranged funnel and the subsequently arranged pair of calender rolls without further deflection.(b) All bottom rolls are fixedly arranged.(c) The first pressure rolls limiting the pre-drafting zone and the main drafting zone, respectively, are arranged to be shiftable along an arc about the rotational axis of the corresponding bottom roll in such a manner that the drafting zones are adaptable to the fiber length.

  • Patent number: 4399590
Abstract: A method of, and apparatus for, checking a plant for blending textile staple fibres of different types, which are supplied by fibre metering units. The supply of fibres to the storage device is interrupted during repeated time intervals. According to the invention the fibres supplied by an individually operated fibre metering unit, supplying a constant quantity, during part time intervals within the time intervals are transported to a quantity measuring device and are measured. The present invention permits very reliable and precise checking of the fibre quantities supplied by the fibre metering units in such a manner that a desired blending proportion can be maintained precisely. The machines fed from the storage device can be maintained operating during the checking periods, i.e. at all times.

  • Patent number: 4353667
Abstract: A method of, and apparatus for, maintaining substantially constant a quantity of opened fibrous material delivered per unit of time, to a spinning preparatory machine, wherein a conveying air stream is generated by means of a fan operating at a given point on its characteristic diagram, the conveying air stream is delivered into a transporting duct for the fibrous material, and the fibrous material is supplied into the transporting duct. The supplied fibrous material within the duct is accelerated by means of the conveying air stream, and the accelerated fibrous material is delivered within the duct in the direction of the spinning preparatory machine.

  • Patent number: 4178114
Abstract: A rotatable cylinder or the like is provided between the branch duct and the main transporting duct in order to draw off a part flow of flock-laden air from the main air stream passing through the transport duct. The cylinder may be an integral part of the branch duct or a separate member. Rotation of the cylinder effects withdrawal of a part flow from the transport duct.

  • Patent number: 4171262
Abstract: An apparatus for eliminating metallic contaminations from a fibre transporting duct in spinning preparation, wherein an air stream transports fibre flocks through the duct. At a branching point of the fibre transporting duct leading to a waste duct there is pivotably arranged deflecting means operatively connected with and activated by a drive mechanism. The deflecting means are activated in response to the passage of a metallic object or other metallic contaminations through a section of the fibre transporting duct surrounded by a metal detector arranged upstream of the branching point, by means of a control device connected with a power source and the drive mechanism. Within a short time the deflecting means can be shifted from an idle or ineffectual position, where the transporting duct is open and the waste duct is maintained closed, into a working position, in which the transporting duct is closed and the waste duct is maintained open.

  • Patent number: 4169632
Abstract: Each card is interconnected to a multiplicity of pneumatic feed ducts via a branch duct which can be selectively placed in communication with any one of the feed ducts. Each branch duct includes a plurality of openings near one end, each of which is opened or closed relative to a feed duct by means of a sliding baffle. In addition, the upstream end of each branch duct is open to the atmosphere so that the same constant air pressure prevails in all of the feed chutes to the various cards.
