Abstract: A method of and device for imprinting the upper surface of a container that has a closure at its upper surface, especially of a bottle with a head that is wrapped along with its cap all the way around with a blank, especially of foil, by applying the blank around the head while leaving part of the blank to project beyond it, wrapping the sleeve-shaped extension to one side against the upper surface of the cap, and pressing it down with a resilient pad. The disk is embossed at the upper surface, the blank of foil is pressed down with the resilient pad, forcing foil into the embossed areas, and the raised areas of the embossing are then burnished with a hard pressure-application component.

Abstract: Wrap-around labels are applied with a hot-melt adhesive in a labelling machine in which upstream of the label box, the containers have the glue or adhesive applied to them by at least one, and preferably two, alternately operable nozzles while the rotary plates on which the containers are mounted are temporarily held stationary. This provides for highly precise gluing and the containers can then be rotated counter to the direction of rotation of the turntable carrying the plates at the label box so that a precise removal of the wrap-around label from the box is effected without allowing glue to accumulate on other labels in the box and impairing the labelling operation.

It consists of an adhesive roller, especially one with a resilient surface, of an adhesive-supply mechanism, of an adhesive doctor positioned behind the supply mechanism in relation to the direction that the roller rotates in, and of a label getter with an adhesive-pickup surface that is in particular rigid and that rolls over the surface of the adhesive roller.

Abstract: A distributing apparatus for transferring bottles between conveyors or processing machines like labelling machines or capping machines and the like includes a rotating carrier supporting at least one transfer member which rotates or oscillates with respect to the carrier. The transfer member is of segmental shape and includes a plurality of circumferential pockets for receiving the bottles. The outer face between the pockets is of convex contour so that the transfer member rolls off the conveyor or processing machine when picking up or delivering the bottles.

Abstract: A device for smoothing and pressing down in labeling machines, intended for the point of a blank of foil wrapped around the neck and head of a bottle with the point projecting at the head, and having a pot-like housing that can be moved axially against the head of the bottle and accommodates an elastic sponge structure. To allow the device to handle the blank of foil gently, apply it uniform and smooth to the head of bottle even in the vicinity of depressed zones of the head, and to prolong its life, the face of the sponge structure toward the head of the bottle has a recess that in the pressing-down position embraces at least the head of the bottle on all sides subject to slight tension.

Abstract: There is described an apparatus and a method for the foil-capping of bottles with a patch of metal foil having a point and an adhesive back, comprising(a) adhering each patch to the neck of a bottle by its central area with the upper area of the foil projecting above the bottle neck,(b) applying the laterally projecting patch ends so that they overlap one another,(c) folding down the area of each patch projecting above the bottle neck to the bottle side away from the patch point, and(d) simultaneously pressing down and smoothing the folded down patch area onto the top side and all about the circumferential margin adjacent thereto.A neater tear-free arrangement of the foil about the top and sides of the neck of the bottle results.

Abstract: In the affixing of strip label closures across the top and down the sides of a container wherein a strip label is coated with glue, held extended and at right angles to the axis of the container above its top whereby portions of the strip label overhang the top of the container, and the overhanging portions are pressed onto the opposed sides of the container, the improvement which comprises gripping the free ends of the strip label while the label is held extended over the top of the container, guiding the gripped ends over arcuate paths that are in the same plane as the axis of the container directly to the intended points of adhesion on the sides of the container, and thereafter effecting the pressing. Abstract: The invention relates to a gluing apparatus for a labeling machine, consisting of a glue roller, a doctor blade adjustable with respect to the glue roller periphery and determining the thickness of the coat of glue to be applied, a glue feeder preceding the doctor blade in the direction of rotation of the glue roller, and a glue stripper which can be applied to the circumference of the glue roller. In accordance with the invention the glue stripper is disposed between the glue feeder and the doctor blade, and a hollow for the formation of a column of glue is disposed adjacent the cutting edge of the glue stripper.

Abstract: In the labeling of articles such as bottles by feeding the articles to a labelling machine having label pickup means, picking up labels from a label box, successively applying such labels to the articles, and periodically replacing the label box when empty with a full label box, the improvement which comprises replacing the empty label box during the time interval between successive label pickups without stopping the machine. An apparatus therefor includes two label boxes disposed alongside one another, guide means for the boxes so as to permit them to move together transversely to the direction in which labels are stacked in the boxes, and means permitting retracting and advancing in label stacking direction of that label box which is in active position.

Abstract: In the affixing of neck labels and foils to bottles wherein precut labels and foils are picked up at a station and glue-coated, turned over, and pressed onto the bottles by their glue-coated surfaces, the improvement which comprises feeding each foil and its respective neck label to the pickup station in such a way that during the pickup the lower edge of the foil is covered by the upper edge of the neck label, and pressing both foil and neck label onto the bottle substantially simultaneously in a single operation.
