  • Patent number: 4286772
Abstract: The fence includes posts composed of at least two channel members disposed at right angles to each other, the openings in the channel members being restricted so that an end link of chain link fencing can be inserted and turned so as to be retained in the channel member. The fence further includes chain link fencing, the upper portion of which, has transverse projections to be received and engage a channel member forming the top rail of the fence. The top rail is held in place on a line post by a bracket received in the upper end of the line post which may also be a channel member. The projections on the bracket engage the top rail so as to hold the rail securely against the side of the post adjacent its upper end.

  • Patent number: 4174187
Abstract: A dock constructed of a pair of trusses each of which includes two spaced apart channel members having tubular bridging material therebetween. Cross members adjacent the ends of the trusses join the channel member in spaced apart relationship so that decking material can be supported by the trusses. The channel members used are of the type having a longitudinally extending restricted opening in one side. These slots facilitate bolting bridging and cross members to the channel members. The dock is supported by upright channel members located adjacent each corner. These upright members are adjustably secured by angle brackets bolted in the restricted openings therein and to the trusses so that the height of the dock can be adjusted.

  • Patent number: 4159820
Abstract: A fastener for securing a fence post cap to a channel type post. The fence post cap has a side wall and a bottom wall received in the open upper end of the post and a top wall which extends away from the post to engage a horizontal top rail of the fence. The bottom wall of the cap has an aperture through which a bolt extends. The fastener is a curved sheet metal member having an aperture to receive the bolt. A nut provided on the bolt can be tightened to cause the sheet metal member to be flattened whereby its edges bite in to the interior walls of the post. The fastening means is also used to secure a barbed wire arm to the post. The base of the barbed wire arm extends into the post so as to be adjacent the bottom wall of the cap and the bolt extends through the base of the barbed wire arm as well as passing through the bottom wall of the cap and the fastening means.

  • Patent number: 4140416
Abstract: The floor flange is primarily for anchoring lower end of channel type fence posts to a floor or the like and consists essentially of two spaced apart rectangular boxes joined by a common bottom wall which is adapted to the secured to the floor by lag screws or the like. Each box has a pair of parallel upright sidewalls, a top wall and a back wall joined thereto and to the bottom wall. The remaining side of the box is open to provide access to the interior. Two adjacent side walls of the box are provided with aligned apertures to receive a bolt. The dimensions of at least one of the boxes is such that a lower end of a channel type post will be received thereon. In addition the bolt extending through the side wall will extend through a slot in the wall of the channel member and thus tightening of the bolt causes the sidewalls to be urged against the wall of the channel member so as to secure it to the floor flange.

  • Patent number: 4124322
Abstract: A corner key for securing channel members to form a frame, such as a gate frame which consists of two substantially identical mating members. Each of the members is in the form of two identical sections joined substantially at right angle to each other. There is at least one transverse groove on the face of each section which will mate with the other member so that when the mating faces of the identical members of the key are placed face to face apertures are provided in the corner key. These apertures are adapted to receive fastening means which tend to wedge the members apart thus creating a tighter fit in the channel member.

  • Patent number: 4122630
Abstract: A spring hinge for use with a gate having a frame constructed of channel member joined at the corner by corner keys. The hinge includes a rod having a right angle near one end which is threaded and an elongated slot in the other end. The slotted end is received in a bore in a corner of the gate frame and extends through a bore in the corner key. A helical spring received on the slotted end of the rod has one of its ends retained in the slot the other end is adapted to engage an adjacent wall of the channel member in which it is installed. When the gate is swung open the rod is fixed and one end of the spring is held therein while the other end turns with the gate thereby twisting the spring so as to store energy required to return the gate to the closed position.

  • Patent number: 4101226
Abstract: A bracket for supporting a channel type fence rail which abuts a side wall of a channel type corner post or terminal post. The bracket is in the form of a channel having two side walls and an interconnecting wall the height and width of which are such that the bracket is received in an open end of the fence rail. A curved sheet metal member is secured to one side wall of the bracket so that its edges engage the walls in the interior of the rail. The bracket is secured to the post by a bolt which passes through the other side wall of the bracket, through the slot in the post and a washer in the channel. A nut on the bolt serves to hold the bracket tightly against the post. The bracket is fastened to the rail by flattening the curved member. This is accomplished either by tightening the means fastening the sheet metal member or by the movement of the bracket toward the open end of the rail due to the tightening of the bolt securing the bracket to the post.

  • Patent number: 4083591
Abstract: The gate latch is intended for use with gates which are capable of swinging through an arc of approximately 180 degrees. The latch finger secured to the gate may therefore pass through the latch if desired. The latch includes a hollow body secured to the gate post. A slot in the front wall of the body allows the latch finger to pass therethrough and one or more pawls are rotatably mounted in the body so as to trap the latch finger. In one embodiment, a pair of pawls is provided and the latch finger engages one pawl which rotates out of its path and the latch finger is trapped between the pawls as the pawl returns to its rest position due to the action of gravity. In another form of the invention a single rotatable pawl has a notch to engage the latch finger as the gate swings to the closed position. The pawl is then held there by co-operating means on the pawl and on the lower wall of the latch until it is released manually.

  • Patent number: 3997144
Abstract: A gate or panel including a frame composed of channel members each of which has opposed side walls bent inwardly to define a slot for receiving edges of the chain link fabric which is within the frame. An end link of the fabric, which is in the slot in the adjacent side member, is turned to prevent withdrawal thus securing the fabric to the frame. Each of the frame members has a partition wall extending between the opposed walls so as to stiffen the gate frame. Depending upon the space between the slot and the partition wall it may be necessary to slide the end links into the channel from either end in order to turn the end links rather than inserting the links through the slot from the sides.
