Patent number: 11512578Abstract: A method and system of adjusting near-bit weight on a drill bit in a drill string having a bottom hole assembly located at an end of a drill pipe, an anti-stall device near the bottom hole assembly, surface sensing and control equipment and a downhole-to-surface communication system, the anti-stall device measuring downhole performance criteria and evaluation of the measured downhole performance criteria, comprising the steps of measuring at least one downhole performance criteria by the anti-stall device; evaluating the measured downhole performance criteria in substantially real time by the anti-stall device; adjusting weight on the drill bit by the anti-stall device based on the evaluation by the anti-stall device; and communicating the adjustment to weight on the drill bit to the surface sensing and control equipment by the downhole-to-surface communication system for further adjustment of weight on the drill bit.Type: GrantFiled: December 16, 2020Date of Patent: November 29, 2022Assignee: WWT North America Holdings, Inc.Inventors: Norman Bruce Moore, Rudolph Ernst Krueger, V, Philip Wayne Mock, Rudolph Ernst Krueger, IV

Patent number: 8439129Abstract: An anti-stall tool in an oil well drilling assembly that controls reciprocation of the drill bit by a controller that alters weight-on-bit (WOB) depending upon measured downhole pressure or torque at the downhole motor. The controller receives preset high and low working pressure limits for the downhole motor and keeps the drill bit rotating by maintaining WOB during normal drilling operations, increasing WOB if sensed working pressure indicates that drill bit loading or torque is undesirably low, and reversing WOB by retracting the drill bit if excessive working pressure or torque is sensed.Type: GrantFiled: February 22, 2012Date of Patent: May 14, 2013Assignee: WWT International, Inc.Inventors: Philip Wayne Mock, Rudolph Ernst Krueger, IV

Patent number: 7938202Abstract: An attachment and fastener system rigidly secures a rotatable drill pipe protector (RDPP) to a drill pipe. The RDPP comprises a sleeve which is split axially along at least one side. Parallel hinge bars are contained in first and second hinge sections which wrap around the hinge bars along opposite sides of the opening in the RDPP. One hinge bar is rotatable in the first hinge section. A series of axially spaced apart bolts are held in corresponding threaded openings in the rotatable hinge bar which rotates about its axis to swing the bolts in unison between open and closed positions. The other hinge bar has a series of threaded receptor openings facing outwardly from slotted openings in the second hinge section and aligned with the bolts on the other hinge bar. The rotating hinge bar swings the bolts into alignment with the slotted openings in the other hinge, after which the bolts are tightened in the threaded receptor openings for applying a holding force around the drill pipe.Type: GrantFiled: April 24, 2009Date of Patent: May 10, 2011Assignee: WWT International, Inc.Inventors: Sarah B. Mitchell, Rudolph Ernst Krueger, IV, Garrett C. Casassa
