  • Patent number: 6390688
Abstract: A strain relief connector for a fiber optic cable has an optical fiber enclosed within a cover having an outer diameter. A relatively long sleeve surrounds the cover and has an inner surface at an inner diameter, the inner diameter being substantially larger than the outer diameter of the cover. Portions of the sleeve and the fiber optic cable are compressed by a die, forming compressed portions having widths substantially larger than their heights and causing the inner surface of the sleeve to frictionally engage the outer surface of the cover layer and the inner surface of the cover to fictionally engage the outer surface of the optical fiber enclosed therein. The length of the sleeve and the configuration of the compressed portion allow a relatively high area of frictional resistance between the buffer layer and the sleeve.

  • Patent number: 6273752
Abstract: A modular connector panel has a planar front panel with opposite surfaces. A plurality of panel openings extend through the panel in an aligned array. Support members extend from a surface of the panel and have near ends connected to the panel and remote ends spaced from the panel. Abutments extend laterally from the remote ends of the support members and parallel to the panel, and have abutment surfaces facing the panel. The abutments are arranged in pairs, with each pair being aligned with a panel opening. A connector can be coupled by engaging a pair of abutments and extending into a panel opening.

  • Patent number: 6203130
Abstract: An enhanced telecommunications cabinet assembly for enclosing wiring interconnections includes a chassis defining an interior cavity, a movable interconnect management adapter tray positioned in the interior cavity of the chassis, a plurality of modular interconnect panels mounted on the movable adapter tray, and front and top covers on the chassis. The chassis has a bottom wall and a pair of opposite sidewalls extending upward therefrom so as to define the interior cavity between the sidewalls and above the bottom wall. The chassis further has a pair of lower guide members positioning the movable adapter tray in the interior cavity of the chassis for movement relative thereto.

  • Patent number: 5455880
Abstract: A connector assembly for the at least partially stripped end of an optical fiber cable includes a crimp ring (10) having a longitudinal bore (14) therethrough, the bore having a large diameter portion (20) and a small diameter portion (22). The large diameter portion is adapted to engage a jacketed segment of cable (28) whereas the small diameter portion (22) is adapted to encompass an unjacketed segment of cable (28). The crimp ring (10) is crimped onto the unjacketed segment about small diameter portion (22), and coupling means, e.g., flange member (24), are used to couple crimp ring (10) to connector plug (36) by crimping on flange member (24). The connector plug (36) receives crimp ring (10) therein, has a bore (38) through which the cable (28) passes, and has an outlet (42) where the cable (28) is cleaved.

  • Patent number: 5373571
Abstract: Photodynamic therapy apparatus providing improved light distribution with an end fitting for use with clad optical fibers, which apparatus cooperates with an unclad stripped terminal end of the optical fiber that is inwardly tapered towards its end such that light scattering media disposed between a glass tube surrounding at least the tapered portion of the optical fiber provides improved and predictable light distribution, the media being suitably cured to a rigid relationship thereby to continuously provide improved light distribution.

  • Patent number: 4913510
Abstract: A lens for an optical fiber is formed on the end of a capillary glass tube which is then fitted over an optical fiber. The lens can be formed by mounting a capillary tube in a spindle, and rotating and heating the end of the tube until centrifugal force forms the lens as a bulbous portion.
