  • Patent number: 10881682
Abstract: The disclosure describes methods and therapeutic compositions comprising polymers modified with N-alkyl-hydroxy groups comprising one or more carbon atoms. The compositions are useful for gene delivery, and exhibit broad-spectrum antiviral activity and low toxicity in vitro.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 26, 2015
Date of Patent: January 5, 2021
    Assignee: International Business Machines Corporation
Inventors: James Hedrick, Dylan Boday, Jeannette Garcia, Rudy Wojtecki, Yi Yan Yang, Chuan Yang
  • Publication number: 20180369397
Abstract: Polythioaminal polymers are made from hexahydrotriazine precursors and dithiol precursors. The precursors are blended together and subjected to mild heating to make the polymers. The polymers have the general structure wherein each R1 is independently an organic or hetero-organic group, each R2 is independently a substituent having molecular weight no more than about 120 Daltons, X and Z are each a sulfur-bonded species, at least one of X and Z is not hydrogen, and n is an integer greater than or equal to 1. X and Z may be hydrogen or a functional group, such as a thiol-reactive group. The reactive thiol groups of the polythioaminal may be used to attach thiol-reactive end capping species. By using water soluble or water degradable dithiols, such as polyether dithiols, water soluble polythioaminals may be made. Some such polymers may be used to deliver therapeutics with non-toxic aqueous degradation products.

  • Patent number: 6670310
Abstract: A high performance lubricant to extend the life of tooling to punch holes and shear metals especially thick steel members. The lubricant, due to its modified viscosity, remains on the tool during the process allowing it to provide the necessary coating to reduce the friction developed. Most punching processes mount the tool vertical and the work is held below the tool. Lubricant is applied to the tool prior to punching. A problem with lubricants presently used is the viscosity is so low the lubricant runs off the tool prior to the punching process rendering the lubricant ineffective. The thixotropic index of the lubricant is controlled by addition of fumed silica to provide the proper viscosity to keep the lubricant on the tool and then during the punching process the viscosity is reduced sufficiently by the shear energy applied between the tool and work to allow the lubricant to flow in the shear area thereby providing maximum lubrication between the tool and the work.

  • Publication number: 20030057137
Abstract: An automated machine which separates live ammunition from spent (fired) cartridges for the purpose of recycling the metal from the cartridges. Live rounds create a hazard in the recycling process. The machine separates the live rounds from the spent cartridges by flowing the cartridges along a V shaped track and removing the lighter spent cartridges by means of air jets positioned along the track. Various calibers of ammunition can be sorted simultaneously by the machine.
