Abstract: A system and method for producing a character are provided. A remote control device having a plurality of numeral keys and capable of inputting a plurality of values is used to issue a command representing one of the plurality of values and composed of a combination of the plurality of numeral keys to an interactive equipment. In the interactive equipment, a reference table is provided to provide a relationship between the plurality of values and a plurality of characters each corresponding to one thereof. By referring to the reference table, the value corresponding to the command can be converted to a corresponding character among the plurality of characters. Finally, the character can be displayed and thus produced on the interactive equipment.

Abstract: An embedded system and method capable of automatically updating system software. The embedded system includes a first storage device for storing a first system software and a boot image; a microcontroller coupled to the first storage device for respectively converting the first system software and the boot image into a system code and a boot code, for controlling booting of the embedded system; and a connecting interface coupled to the microcontroller and further coupled to an external data storage device through a data transmitting media. The external data storage device contains a second system software. The boot code includes an update agent interface programming (UAIP) code utilized for reading the second system software from the external data storage device through the connection interface to update the first system software.

The method includes: providing a utility source code, a pre-built configuration framework and an automated building framework; and utilizing the automated building framework for automatically compiling the utility source code to generate a plurality of utility binary programs and for automatically integrating the pre-built configuration framework and the utility binary programs into a root file system of the embedded operating system.

Abstract: A library extracting device and method for extracting libraries of an embedded operating system. The embedded operating system has a plurality of binary files and a plurality of libraries. The library extracting device includes a first checking module for generating a required library list according to libraries required by the binary files, a second checking module for generating an existing library list according to the libraries, a comparing module for comparing the required library list with the existing library list to detect a necessary library which is required by a binary file but not included in the libraries, and a extracting module for retrieving the necessary library from a predetermined library set and for adding the necessary library into the libraries.
