Abstract: A sight mounting platform consisting of a flat, smooth sight attachment area(1), a mounting spline(2) and a backing plate(6) which attaches to the top carrying handle(9) of the Colt M-16/AR-15 rifle and is held in place by the compressive force of the backing plate(6) being bolted(8) to the face of the mounting spline(3) with the carrying handle sandwiched in between. All axial, lateral and rotational movement is prevented by the contour shape of the mounting spline(2) and the compressive force exerted on the top carrying handle(9) by the backing plate(6) and face of the SMP(4). A secondary screw(5) is also used if extra support is needed. The secondary screw(5) is inserted through the existing hole in the top of the carrying handle(9) and threaded into the top of the mounting spline(2). The sight mounting platform is made of a light machineable, castable material such as aluminum or plastic.
