  • Patent number: 8666969
Abstract: Various aspects of this disclosure are directed to receiving, by a computing device, a first table join query that may include a first group of table identifiers that identify the two or more tables. The computing device may determine whether the first table join query includes an outer join command. When the first table join query includes the outer join command, the computing device may compare the first group of table identifiers and a second group of table identifiers of one or more pre-joined tables to determine whether each of the first table identifiers matches at least one of the second group of table identifiers. The computing device may further determine whether a predicate associated with each table identifier matches a predicate associated with a matching second table identifier. When each of the predicates match, the computing device may rewrite the first table join query.

  • Publication number: 20130013617
Abstract: Techniques are described for processing a query to produce query results, the query specifying at least a first timestamp value. Embodiments receive the query for processing and access a database index containing a plurality of database keys. The database index contains one or more database index keys, each of which includes at least a timestamp value and a time zone value. Embodiments compare the first timestamp value specified in the query with a portion of one the database index keys to locate at least a portion of the query results. More specifically, the compared portion of the database index key excludes the time zone value. The located portion of the query results is then retrieved.

  • Patent number: 8077956
Abstract: A method for identifying the orientation of a radiographic image of a patient generates a reduced-scale image having a smaller number of pixel elements than the original radiographic image and generates a reduced bit-depth image from the reduced-scale image. The method determines whether the image has portrait or landscape orientation by sectioning either the reduced-scale image or the reduced bit-depth image into at least two sections and calculating at least one value related to relative symmetry for each of the at least two sections.

  • Publication number: 20090112858
Abstract: A system and method is provided for query processing comprises: creating an index of a database and ordering a set of index candidates from the index into a list based on a set of heuristic rules. A query defining a query path is then reduced into a list of single path expressions. Each index candidate is matched against the list of single path expressions according to the ordering of the index candidates. The matched candidate nodes are also verified to insure that they satisfy the query path.

  • Patent number: 7246115
Abstract: A method and system for efficiently identifying materialized view candidates for queries filters materialized views using certain criteria, using the materialized view signatures. This filtering rejects some of the unqualified materialized views prior to the performance of the query rewrite matching algorithm, resulting in a group of materialized view candidates. The query rewrite matching algorithm is then performed on the materialized view candidates. By first filtering the materialized views based on their signatures, the number of materialized views on which the query rewrite matching algorithm is performed is significantly reduced, improving performance.

  • Patent number: 7089225
Abstract: A heuristic approach is used to order materialized view (MW) candidates in a list based on descending order of their reduction power. A query (e.g., SQL query) is then matched with the MVs in the list order, wherein searching is stopped when matching has been found. The query is matched with materialized views in the ordered list by identifying a materialized view candidate as follows: identifying an MV that is not locked by a REFRESH process; identifying a matching MV that does not require a regroup; identifying a matching MV that does not require a rejoin; identifying a matching MV that does not require a residual join; or identifying an MV with largest reduction power from the list of candidates.

  • Publication number: 20050114307
Abstract: A heuristic approach is used to order materialized view (MW) candidates in a list based on descending order of their reduction power. A query (e.g., SQL query) is then matched with the MVs in the list order, wherein searching is stopped as soon as good enough matching has been found.

  • Publication number: 20050033139
Abstract: A method for identifying the orientation of an interesting object in a digital medical image comprises steps of creating a rectangular interesting image mask that covers the interesting object, based on the original digital medical image; generating a rough image based on the interesting image mask, the rough image coarsely describing the interesting object; and identifying the orientation of the interesting object based on the rough image. A method for segmenting interesting objects in digital medical images may also comprise steps of creating a rectangular interesting image mask that covers said interesting object, based on an original digital medical image; generating a rough image based on the interesting image mask, the rough image coarsely describing the interesting object; and performing a post-process on the rough image.

  • Patent number: 6795521
Abstract: A method of detecting and analyzing abnormalities, like lung nodules, in thoracic computer tomography (CT) images uses digital image processing techniques and adaptive computing methods. The techniques include an automatic detection process to detect candidate abnormalities, an image matching process to match CT slices from two different CT scans, and a measurement process that determines parameters of the candidate abnormalities. Final results and processed CT images are displayed on a user interface.

  • Publication number: 20040122814
Abstract: A method, apparatus, and article of manufacture for optimizing a query in a computer system, wherein the query is performed by the computer system to retrieve data from a database stored on the computer system. The optimization includes: identifying a materialized view candidate in the computer system, matching a grouping of the materialized view with a grouping of the query using column equivalence and functional dependency, in order to determine whether re-aggregation is necessary, deriving one or more aggregate functions requested by the query from the materialized view and any remaining tables in the query based on the matched groupings, and rewriting the query based on the matched groupings.
