  • Patent number: 5951577
Abstract: In a surgical instrument, in particular, a tubular-shafted instrument, comprising two grips pivotally movable relative to one another for moving two tools movable relative to one another, and a releasable locking mechanism for securing the grips in various positions moved towards one another against movement away from one another, in order to make operation with one hand possible, it is proposed that a locking lever be pivotally mounted on one grip, the free end of the locking lever being longitudinally displaceable along a displacement path on the other grip upon pivotal movement of the grips, that a toothing be arranged along the displacement path of the free end for engagement with a toothing at the free end of the locking lever such that an opening movement of the grips is prevented, and that for release of the engagement of the two toothings the displacement path be adjustable such that the toothings disengage.

  • Patent number: 5910153
Abstract: To allow easy replacement of tools in a surgical punch with a tubular shaft, the distal end of which forms an annular cutting edge, a cutting member is mounted for longitudinal displacement in relation to the shaft, interacts with a cutting edge, and is held on an advancing element mounted for displacement in the shaft. An actuating member, arranged at the proximal end of the shaft, displaces the advancing element in the shaft. The cutting member is releasably connected to the advancing element and/or a sleeve bearing the cutting edge to the shaft. The releasable connections are provided using radially and elastically displaceable projections or detents on one part which engage behind recesses on the other part in a locking position and thereby secure the parts inserted into one another in an axial direction against any separation.

  • Patent number: 5895394
Abstract: In a surgical applicator for U-shaped clips comprising a handle, a tubular shaft adjoining the handle, a forceps-type applicator tool at the free end of the tubular shaft, a closing mechanism for the applicator tool arranged in the tubular shaft and actuatable from the handle, an advancing mechanism for the clips arranged in the tubular shaft and also actuatable from the handle, two separate actuating elements on the handle, each being movable between a rest position and a work position, one of the actuating elements being associated with the closing mechanism and the other with the advancing mechanism, in order to improve the safety measures and the actuating aids, it is proposed that a locking member be mounted on one of the actuating elements and enter into operative connection with the other actuating element, thereby to prevent each of the two actuating elements from moving so long as the respective other actuating element is not in its rest position.

  • Patent number: 5853412
Abstract: A bipolar surgical grasping instrument with two grasping arms that are electrically insulated from one another. The two arms are pivotally mounted at the end of a tubular shank, and are coaxially pivotable in opposite directions by toggle lever elements that are activated by a push-and-pull rod displaceable in the tubular shank. The push-and-pull rod and the toggle lever elements of the two arms consist of electrically conducting material and are electrically conductively connected to one another. The first arm is electrically conductively connected to it associated toggle lever elements. The second arm is connected to its associated toggle lever elements via an insulating part, and the second arm is electrically conductively connected via a pivot bearing to the tubular shank. The first arm is rotatably mounted on the tubular shank and electrically insulated from the second arm and from the tubular shank.

  • Patent number: 5843097
Abstract: In a surgical applicator for U-shaped clips comprising a handle, a tubular shaft adjoining the handle, a forceps-type applicator tool at the free end of the tubular shaft and a clip magazine in the tubular shaft, a closing mechanism arranged in the tubular shaft for the applicator tool, the closing mechanism being actuatable from the handle, and an advancing mechanism arranged in the tubular shaft for the clips, the advancing mechanism likewise being actuatable from the handle and pushing the clips forwards in a path of advance leading into the applicator tool, in order to prevent unintentional pushing-back of the clips in the applicator before the final application, it is proposed that a restraining nose project resiliently between the forceps-type legs of the applicator tool and into the path of advance of the clips, the restraining nose being resiliently displaced by the forwardmost clip out of the path of advance thereof when the forwardmost clip is pushed past into the applying position, and the restrain

  • Patent number: 5709706
Abstract: A surgical instrument including a shank, at least one tool mounted for swivel movement at the end of the shank, a swivel element mounted for swivel movement about an axis of rotation for swivelling the tool between an open position and a closed position, and an actuating member actuatable from an end of the shank located opposite the tool for swivelling the swivel element about the axis of rotation. The high closing forces required for plastic deformation of objects can also be achieved without excessive forces being transmitted to the drive mechanisms. The actuating member is an arm which is articulatedly connected at a first articulation point to the swivel element, and that in the open position of the tool, the arm be at an incline to an axis of the swivel element extending perpendicularly to the axis of rotation through the first articulation point and in the closed position of the tool, be essentially perpendicular to the axis of the swivel element.
