Higher level components (e.g., application layer components) selectively pull data from lower-level components (e.g., physical-layer or adaptation-layer components). The quality of video displayed is intelligently balanced against the amount of resources available, and a subset of the video data sufficient to display the content is pulled from the lower layer, providing users with an optimal balance between content quality and power consumption.
