    Abstract: A recording substrate (21) is brought into a predetermined position on a recording substrate holder (10). One edge of the recording substrate (21) rests against a recording substrate stop (18) provided at one side on the recording substrate holder (10). Extending transversely to the recording substrate stop (18), in or on the recording substrate holder (10), there is a transmitting or receiving means (KS) which can be covered by the recording substrate (21). A receiving or transmitting means (KE) is provided on the printing head (7). In the region of the extent of the transmitting or recording means (KS), at a defined distance from the recording substrate stop (18), a shielding surface (30) is arranged on the recording substrate holder (10). During the movement of the printing head (7) along the transmitting or receiving means (KS), the location of the shielding surface (30) and the location of the recording substrate edge remote from the recording substrate stop (18) are detected.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a method for guiding a document in a document-processing unit, in particular a printer with a document-transporting channel. For dependable guiding of the leading edge of even arched or creased documents into the transporting channel, the document is moved to such an extent in the direction of the transporting channel that a flat document protrudes by a small amount into the transporting channel. A creased or arched document can be supported by its leading edge against the channel edge. By subsequent brushing-over movements of document-directing devices attached to the printing slide, the document is forced behind the channel edge.

    Abstract: In a replaceable ribbon cartridge (12) for printers in which the ribbon (14) can be guided out of the cartridge through an exit opening (16) and at the end of a tension segment extending outside the cartridge can be reintroduced into the cartridge through an entrance opening (18), there is arranged on the cartridge (12) in the zone of the tension segment at least one deflection slide (24, 26) displaceable in a direction approximately perpendicular to the ribbon plane between a position of retraction into the cartridge (12) and an extended position deflecting the ribbon (14). Through the deflection slide or slides (24, 26), the ribbon (14) is generally spread away from the cartridge sufficiently so that upon insertion of the cartridge into the printer, it places itself around the printer head.

    Abstract: A perforated form band is introduced into a form printer through an input passage or shaft. The passage is formed by spaced walls and is pivotally mounted on the printer for movement between an input position and a working position. In the input position, a form band is introduced into and aligned within the input passage. In one embodiment, the leading end of the form band contacts transversely extending stop surfaces, while in another the leading end of the form band is aligned with an indicating mark and the perforations on the form band engage with projections in the input passage. With the form band aligned, the input passage is moved into the working position engaging the perforations in the form band on pins projecting outwardly from sprocket wheels which drive the form band through the printer. In the working position of the input passage, the form band no longer contacts the stop surfaces or engages the projections used in the aligning operation.
