  • Publication number: 20040114545
Abstract: The present invention relates generally to a cellular telecommunications network. Each cell has at least one base station for sending messages on a downlink of a Frequency Division Duplex (FDD) to end user equipments within the cell and for receiving messages on an uplink from end user equipments within the cell. Other end user equipment located within the cell which have no or only poor communication directly with the base station over the FDD communicate with the base station indirectly via an intermediate end user equipment, such as a mobile telephone. The intermediate end user equipment includes an FDD transceiver and a Time Division Duplex (TDD) transceiver and an FDD/TDD interface.

  • Publication number: 20040091841
Abstract: Methods are presented for improving performance within an organization, including enhancing sales or service productivity of members of the organization. Desired characteristics for the organization are initially ascertained from the perspective of customers of the organization. Leaders are then employed to define cultural characteristics for the organization using, in part, the desired characteristics, and to define the cultural characteristics in behavioral terms. Action plans are generated for changing the organization to implement the defined cultural characteristics not already present and diminish present characteristics that are inconsistent with the defined cultural characteristics. Leaders of the organization validate the cultural characteristics and the action plan with a focus group including managers within the organization. Owners for implementing the action plans are assigned and progress in implementing the plans is measured.

  • Publication number: 20040025592
Abstract: An injection molding apparatus is disclosed that includes an injection mold, a mold injector, and means for monitoring the injection mold process using acoustic energy. The injection mold includes a cavity for receiving an injection mold material, such as a polymer as injected via the mold injector. The monitoring system includes an acoustic energy generator, an ultrasonic crystal, and an energy monitoring device. The acoustic energy generator produces continuous acoustic energy to be non-invasively applied to the injection mold as the polymer is delivered into the mold. The energy monitoring device monitors changes in dynamic parameters of a resulting continuous resonant frequency established by the acoustic energy generator through the ultrasonic crystal. The ultrasonic crystal serves also as a transducer to receive an output signal from the mold to be delivered to the energy monitoring device.

  • Patent number: 6591288
Abstract: An accelerated access system for a computing device, in which the computing device is connected to a first data network, such as the Internet, via a second data network such as a wireless telecommunication network. The system comprising a server for downloading data from the first data network before that data has been requested by a user of the computing device and a cache for storing the downloaded data. For example, during browsing of the Internet by a user of the computing device the server downloads data linked to an Internet site being displayed by the computing device for storage in the cache. Then when a user subsequently requests the data stored in the cache it appears on the screen of the computing device faster than it would take to access it from the Internet.

  • Patent number: 6501964
Abstract: The invention relates to sub macro cellular layers of a wireless communications system. An object of wireless communications system design is to reduce the number of base station sites required by increasing their range and or capacity. The term, “capacity” is used herein to refer to any suitable measure which provides an indication of how many conventional mobile terminals or other terminals are able to communicate effectively with a given antenna arrangement. Macro base station sites for cellular systems are particularly expensive, both in terms of the equipment required and the need for a geographical site for each cell site where, inter alia, large structures are frequently employed where planning permission is required. The present invention seeks to provide a system and method for reducing the effects of adjacent channel interference, especially in 3G CDMA base stations.

  • Publication number: 20020184207
Abstract: Methods, systems and articles of manufacture are provided for setting a state of triggers between operative and inoperative. In an operative state the trigger may be called during triggering I/O operations such as Insert, Update and Delete. The inoperative state indicates that the system has detected a condition requiring user intervention. In a particular embodiment, a database management system (DBMS) will analyze the function being performed on a table (such as a rename of the table) and with dependent object data, the DBMS will determine if the trigger is self-referencing. If so, the trigger made inoperative. Making the trigger inoperative and requiring user intervention prevents the system from potentially producing undesired results.

  • Patent number: 6430282
Abstract: In methods and apparatus for originating a voice call between first and second voice terminals, a voice call request is received at a data service node, the voice call request identifying the first voice terminal. A call origination request is transmitted from the data service node to a telecommunication switch, the call origination request identifying the first and second voice terminals. The telecommunications switch originates one call from the telecommunications switch to the second voice terminal and another call front the telecommunications switch to the first voice terminal. The telecommunications switch then connects the one call to the other call to connect the first voice terminal to the second voice terminal. The methods and apparatus are particularly useful in connection with advertising on the World Wide Web and in connection with international calling services.

  • Publication number: 20010012764
Abstract: Radio signals in a radio communications system may be modulated in a variety of fashions; there are a finite number of available individual communications channels for separate sets of parties to communicate with each other. The optimisiation of a transmitting antenna requires knowledge of the channel over which the signal is to be transmitted. A system operable over a channel having characteristics such that parameters of a transmission path can be predicted from received signals is disclosed; said system comprising means for analyzing signals received from said channel and a plurality of signal generation means adapted to vary output in response to said signal analysis.

  • Patent number: 6216010
Abstract: This invention relates to radio communication networks and more particularly, to up-link power control for fixed wireless access communication networks. In accordance with one aspect of the invention there is provided a radio communications uplink power control system wherein distance information between an outstation and a base station and information relating to channel loss is employed by a power control algorithm whereby the signal power transmitted can be optimally controlled. The present invention provides a power control strategy which adapts not only to the total channel loss, but separately to the components of this loss. The total channel loss is calculated from the difference in the received signal power and the transmitted signal power (which is encoded in the message, or sent in addition to the message and therefore known to the receiving station). A method of operation is also disclosed.
