  • Patent number: 8102753
Abstract: An approach is presented for designing a polymeric layer for nanometer scale thermo-mechanical storage devices. Cross-linked polyimide oligomers are used as the recording layers in atomic force data storage device, giving significantly improved performance when compared to previously reported cross-linked and linear polymers. The cross-linking of the polyimide oligomers may be tuned to match thermal and force parameters required in read-write-erase cycles. Additionally, the cross-linked polyimide oligomers are suitable for use in nano-scale imaging.

  • Patent number: 7860983
Abstract: A network server architecture that provides network integration and control functions is disclosed. The architecture includes a virtual directory server (VDS) and an identity provider. The VDS provides an interface for access of external user stores, external business rules and external service discovery configurations. The identity provider allows for a client interface for transfer of that information to the client. A rules engine and a service discovery provider configuration module are integrated into the VDS. The rules engine processes the external business rules that have been retrieved. The service discovery control module allows for retrieval of external definitions and information about the users stores that the VDS supports and update of the service discovery control module, even while the architecture is online. The service discovery control module is in a UDDI format, although other formats could be used.

  • Patent number: 7854878
Abstract: A method including providing Au-doped Co nanoparticles. The nanoparticles include a combination of non-ferromagnetic nanoparticles and weakly ferromagnetic nanoparticles. The nanoparticles each have an exterior surface. The surfaces of the nanoparticles are functionalized with 7-(5-uracil-ylcarbamoyl)heptanoic acid. A polymer is provided having a general formula including a uracil group. A dispersion is formed by agitating a solution of the nanoparticles. The solution is spin cast into a film. The film is heated under vacuum at a first temperature, TFM, resulting in inducing ferromagnetism in the non-ferromagnetic nanoparticles and converting the non-ferromagnetic nanoparticles to ferromagnetic nanoparticles, and resulting in enhancing ferromagnetism in the weakly ferromagnetic nanoparticles. The nanoparticles are aligned such that magnetic easy axes of the nanoparticles are oriented by applying a magnetic field to the dispersion while at a second temperature less than TFM.

  • Publication number: 20100239918
Abstract: A microphase separated polymer has nano-domains and inorganic nanoparticles within at least one of the domains. The nanoparticle size is chosen to be substantially smaller than the domain size. For example, for the case of lamellar domains, the nanoparticle size is smaller than the width of the domain. This allows the nanoparticles to affect the bulk properties of the domain phase, such as the overall ionic conductivity or mechanical properties. The nanoparticles can be any of a number of inorganic oxides such as alumina, silica, or titania.
