  • Patent number: 5441064
Abstract: An umbrella is provided a pair of legging-storage pockets on diametrically opposite sides of the center of the umbrella canopy to aid in balancing the weight of the pockets and their contents on opposite sides of the canopy center. Each of the pockets has a closeable entry opening communicating with the pocket interior and through which opening a legging body can be passed into and out of the pocket interior. A pair of folded open-ended tubular legging bodies of flexible, liquid-tight sheet material are normally stored in these pockets. Each of the tubular bodies has an open bottom with a loop-forming stirrup adapted to loop around one of the user's shoes and be pulled adjacent to the heel of the user's shoe, where it makes little or no contact with the ground to minimize wear thereof. Securing means, which are preferably a Velcro.RTM.

  • Patent number: 5088624
Abstract: An attack-repellent device includes a housing which can be carried like a wristwatch on the arm of the user, or attachable to a waling cane, or the user's belt or neck chain. The housing includes one or more nozzles which ejects an attack-repellent chemical under the force of a propellent fluid preferably stored in one or more canisters within the housing. The inner end of each nozzle forms a projection insertable into the discharge orifice in a canister which contains a one-way valve which normally closes the discharge orifice. A spring is provided for urging one or both of the nozzle and canister toward the other. Latching means is provided for normally separating each canister from the associated nozzle. A user-operable member is provided which could be a wall of the housing which normally covers over an entry recess through which the canister or canisters are placed within the housing.

  • Patent number: 4213687
Abstract: A film advancing mechanism comprises a planetary gear train including preferably an annular film winding gear having internal teeth meshing with an eccentrically mounted gear carried by a drive gear which rotates in one direction and the other as a manually operable film winding member is moved back and forth. A sun gear carried by a rotatable slip clutch-forming member meshes with the eccentric gear. The slip clutch-forming member forms a slip clutch with a ratchet wheel held against rotation in one direction by a locking pawl so that the sun gear is normally locked against rotation when the film winding member is moved in the winding direction. When the sun gear is locked in position, bodily movement of the eccentrically mounted gear on the drive gear drives the annular film winding gear. When a film metering pawl enters a metering aperture of the film, a pawl locks the annular gear against further rotation.
