  • Publication number: 20110210895
Abstract: A covert antenna or radio frequency probe assembly for a motor vehicle includes a substantially planar antenna or probe element including a sheet of electrically conductive material, a first dielectric substrate, and a second dielectric substrate. A connector is coupled to the antenna element and is adapted to supply electrical energy to the antenna or probe element from an electrical power source. The antenna or probe element is disposed between the first substrate and the second substrate, and the first substrate is bonded to the second substrate to form a substantially planar antenna or probe assembly. The antenna or probe assembly has the form of a motor vehicle mud guard or another substantially planar motor vehicle component.

  • Patent number: 6301489
Abstract: Radiotelephones include flat blade antennas and flip configurations. The flat blade antenna and flip are mounted to the radiotelephone via dual hinges. The flat blade antenna is configured to be captured by the flip to define a cover in the stow position. The flat blade antenna rotates separate from the flip. The flat blade antenna opens to an angular position greater than the adjacently mounted flip.

  • Patent number: 6289225
Abstract: A pivotable and retractable antenna contains mechanical and electrical components for connecting to, and matching the impedance of, radio frequency circuitry within an electronic device, such as a radiotelephone. A dielectric substrate has one end movably mounted to the housing of a radiotelephone and an opposite free end. The end movably mounted to the housing is configured to move into various positions to allow the dielectric substrate to have a first extended position, a second extended position and a retracted position. In a first extended position, the dielectric substrate extends along a longitudinal direction defined by the radiotelephone housing. In a second extended position, the dielectric substrate free end is pivoted away from the radiotelephone in a direction transverse to the longitudinal direction of the housing.

  • Patent number: 6272356
Abstract: A spring member internally mounted within an electronic device, such as a radiotelephone, serves both as a mechanical device for urging a flip cover to an open position and as an antenna for receiving and/or transmitting wireless communications signals.

  • Patent number: 6232924
Abstract: Flat blade antenna and flip mounting structures and associated methods include biasing the flat blade antenna to travel beyond a predetermined angle of rotation to separate from the flip in the open position. The flat blade antenna and flip are mounted to the radiotelephone via dual hinges and have low turning force components which provide a predetermined force vector to facilitate the blade antenna opening to a desired operative position. The flat blade antenna rotates separate from the flip. The flat blade antenna can open to an angular position greater than the adjacently mounted flip. The biasing mounting configuration provides turning forces which facilitates both the opening and closing of the antenna.

  • Patent number: 5969685
Abstract: Multiple frequency band antennas are pivotally connected to electronic devices such that coaxial connectors are not required. A dielectric substrate, including a plurality of radiating elements disposed thereon, is pivotally connected to an electronic device housing so as to have a predetermined path of rotation from a first position to a second position. At least one of the radiating elements disposed on the dielectric substrate is maintained in a substantially constant spaced-apart relationship with a conductive element disposed within the housing throughout the predetermined path so as to be capacitively coupled with the conductive element.

  • Patent number: 5928000
Abstract: An axially compliant coaxial connector includes a conductive cylindrical sleeve having a helical slot formed therein, an electrical insulator having a central bore disposed within the sleeve, and a conductive pin having a helical slot formed therein disposed within the electrical insulator central bore. The sleeve and pin are configured to be elastically deflected when a compressive force is appliced along an axial direction.
