  • Publication number: 20170014836
Abstract: A horizontal centrifuge, method and system of use, recovers weighting materials from a returned drilling fluid slurry. A clean fluid is delivered, through a clean fluid pipe arranged axially at the hub, to solids discharge ports. The clean fluid is directed radially and circumferentially outwardly at the discharge ports for mixing homogeneously with the recovered weighting materials from forming a reconstituted weighted drilling mud. The reconstituted weighted drilling mud can then be delivered to a rig mud tank for use in a drilling operation. In the system, a drilling fluid and low gravity solids, which are separated from the weighting materials in the horizontal centrifuge, being a first centrifuge, are directed to a second centrifuge which is capable of removing the low gravity solids, thereby producing a clean fluid. The clean fluid is recycled to the first centrifuge for delivery through the clean fluid pipe.

  • Patent number: 9138767
Abstract: A sprinkler for producing a fixed spray pattern includes an inner flow conduit having a nozzle at an outlet. A filter screen is held in place beneath the nozzle. The filter screen engages a push rod of a valve of a flow stop mechanism. The push rod spaces a valve member away from a valve seat to permit water flow through the inner flow conduit when the filter screen and nozzle are in place. If the nozzle is removed or if the inner conduit is severed, the filter screen can be removed, which causes the valve member to close under the force of water pressure and to shut off flow through the inner flow conduit. The valve is located upstream of parts that are vulnerable to damage.

  • Patent number: 5951954
Abstract: A method for utilization of zinc byproducts in the manufacture of clear brine fluids comprising the step of mixing zinc feedstock containing metal impurities with a halogenic acid to produce an impure zinc halide solution. The metal impurities are removed from the zinc halide solution in a two-stage process: the first stage comprises the steps of precipitating and filtering out manganese and iron and the second stage comprises the steps of contacting the zinc halide solution with elemental zinc to cement out the remaining metals comprising nickel, lead, cadmium, copper, mercury and cobalt. Preferably, the zinc halide solution is contacted with zinc shot in multiple passes through zinc-filled column systems. The pH is adjusted between each step, if necessary, to maintain the pH in the first stage within a range of from about 3.5 to 4.5 and the alkalinity during the second stage at less than 1.0% zinc oxide.

  • Patent number: 5290531
Abstract: A method of converting sodium bromide brine to ammonium bromide brine and optionally to calcium bromide is disclosed. The method involves introducing ammonia and carbon dioxide into the reactant brine, removing a resulting bicarbonate precipitate, driving off any excess ammonium carbonate, and optionally contacting with lime.
